Usually performing their duties in a utility capacity, the Laborer position entails working on construction projects, often transferring from one task to another whenever the situation requires. This position supports bridge and related structural heavy civil and highway construction projects throughout Northeast PA and the Lehigh Valley. Smooths and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections.Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.Paving Duties:Assists with pre-run markingsUses a paving lute to fine grade before roller man compactsOperates vibratory plate as neededShovels asphalt as requiredDirect traffic around work area as requiredPipe Duties:Gets tools needed for daily operationsGets job set up for daily function such as setting up a pipe laserOperates a Wacker and jumping jack to perform backfilling dutiesUses cut saws to make pipe proper lengthPreps pipe for connection before pipe gets loweredShoots grades and checks grades using laser or conventional methodsPerforms connection of pipe workResponsible for checking for proper pipe slopePreps structures for installationOther duties as assigned QualificationsRequired Skills, Education, and ExperienceOne month of related experience and/or trainingStrong verbal and written communication skillsMathematical skills including ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs Ability to understand and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructionsProblem solvingAbility to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as neededAbility to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job) Preferred Skills, Education, and ExperienceExperience working in heavy civil construction, road construction, or quarriesOSHA or other relevant safety certifications Physical DemandsFrequently required to:Use hands and arms to finger, handle, reach, and feelTalk and hearStand, walk, and climbLift and/or move up to 50 poundsOccasionally required to stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, or crawlSpecific vision requirements include distance, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus Work EnvironmentRegularly exposed to outside weather conditionsFrequently exposed to moving mechanical partsOccasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particlesNoise level is usually moderate  The H&K Group, Inc. provides complete heavy civil contracting and construction materials solutions with safety, speed, quality, efficiency, and value.
