L2 – L4 Field Technician
Seeking: L2 – L4 Field Technician for fiber high security data center, live networks, and proficient knowledge of DC power concepts and performs, -48DC power work on live systems without need of supervision
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
General/Minimum Responsibilities:
Lead various types of installation projects and can serve as the installation in-charge person
Read and interpret detailed specifications and drawings, blueprints, schematics, and method of procedures (MOPs)
Install rack and stack builds
Running, tracing, dressing, sewing, and testing copper and fiber cables from patch panel to device. Also have knowledge with other cable types including coaxial, power, and network transmission; Use a variety of specific connectors and terminating procedures
Terminate DC power, rectifiers, PDUs, BDFB/BDCBBs, inverters, converters, raycaps and associated infrastructure used in telecommunications networks
Terminate cables using RJ45 connectors
Clean and scope fiber connectors, document light levels and other readings with job specific testing equipment (ex: OTDR)
Install ironwork (ladder rack) cable paths, horizontal and vertical pathways for fiber optic cable management systems, and create a physical cable path for equipment and cable design
Tests and evaluates systems to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system
Complete detailed documents of work performed and provide daily status updates
Troubleshooting and diagnostics of hardware/connectivity.
Commission and decommission of hardware
Required Experience and Skills:
Previous experience working in a complex, high availability data center environment providing layer one hardware installation, ongoing maintenance, problem identification, and incident resolution.
Possess a strong working knowledge of data center processes and design.
Hands-on expertise of midrange systems in large scale environments (100+ servers) - IBM, HP, Oracle, and Dell server hardware.
Exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills, the ability to document complex problem resolution summaries and repetitive tasks interfaces through an online ticketing system.
Understanding of switch/port configurations.
Critical thinking and decision-making skills related to outage risk assessments.
Strong cable management skills and experience managing fiber and copper in a data center environment.
Other Requirements:
Must be willing to travel 100% of the time.
Experience in a CO or data center environment.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Provide and maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
Must be self-motivated and self-driven.
Great time management and documentation skills.
Work extremely well in a team environment with direct supervision.
Must have the ability to work long hours, work at different times of day/night (odd hours), and stressful environments.
Lift and carry up to 80 pounds.
Climb ladders safely by maintaining balance and ability to use tools and carry materials while climbing ladders.
Have sufficient hand strength and dexterity to use industry specific tools.
Distinguish colors and fine print accurately.
