Senior / Lead Mainframe Developer

We're hiring an experienced FIS Systematics mainframe developer to join our core banking delivery team in a senior individual-contributor or technical-lead capacity, depending on experience. You'll work across one or more Systematics subsystems — lending, deposits, relationship management, and general ledger — building, maintaining, and modernizing COBOL/CICS applications that process real-time and batch transactions for banking clients. Senior candidates will own complex modules end-to-end; Lead candidates will additionally drive technical design, mentor junior engineers, and act as the primary technical point of contact with client stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain COBOL/CICS programs and batch jobs within the FIS Systematics core banking environment.Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues (abends, data integrity, performance) across online and batch cycles.Implement enhancements and regulatory/compliance changes across Systematics modules (ALS, IMPACS, RM, ST, GLS) with minimal disruption to daily processing.Write and maintain JCL for batch scheduling, and use DB2/VSAM appropriately for data access and storage.Participate in requirements analysis, technical design, effort estimation, and code reviews.Coordinate releases and deployments using change-management tools (e.g., Endevor/Changeman), following strict controls given the financial impact of the system.Support integration of the Systematics core with API/web-service layers and downstream digital banking channels.(Lead level) Mentor mid-level and junior developers, review their designs and code, and help set team engineering standards.(Lead level) Act as primary technical liaison with client architects and business stakeholders; translate business requirements into technical solutions.(Lead level) Own delivery quality and timelines for a module or workstream, escalating risks proactively.Required Technical Skills8+ years of hands-on mainframe development experience, with significant experience specifically on FIS Systematics (or IBS/ACBS/other FIS core banking platforms considered).Strong COBOL and CICS programming skills in a production banking environment.Working knowledge of DB2 and/or VSAM data structures used within Systematics.Practical experience with JCL for batch job design, scheduling, and troubleshooting.Hands-on experience in one or more Systematics subsystems:ALS – Automated Loan System (lending)IMPACS – demand deposit accounting (DDA/checking)ST – savings and time deposits/certificatesRM – relationship/customer managementGLS – general ledgerSolid understanding of core banking domain concepts: deposits, lending, interest accrual, end-of-day/end-of-month processing, and settlement.Familiarity with mainframe utilities and tooling such as File-Aid, Xpediter/Abend-Aid, Easytrieve, or Culprit.Preferred / Nice-to-Have SkillsExperience with Systematics modernization initiatives — API/web-service enablement, Systematics as a Service, or integration with digital banking front ends.Exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery in a regulated banking environment.Prior experience mentoring developers or leading a small technical team (for Lead-level candidates).Knowledge of banking regulatory and compliance requirements (BSA/AML, Reg E, Reg D, etc.).Experience working directly with U.S. banking or credit union clients in an onshore/offshore delivery model.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).Senior Developer track: 8–10 years of relevant mainframe/Systematics experience.Lead Developer track: 10–14 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated technical leadership or mentoring.Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with distributed, cross-time-zone teams.
