Model-Based Controls Engineer – Field Services

At LHP we ensure Functional Safety and Cyber Security development of these systems and technologies by leveraging our core expertise with widely accepted standards such as AUTOSAR, ISO26262, ASPICE, ISO/SAE 21434.We seek a Model-Based Controls Engineer to join our Field Services team (onsite everyday), located in Erie, PA.Duties And Responsibilities For This Role IncludeConfirming new software features integrate with control system to meet functionality requirementsControls and model requirements definition, controls architecting, design, analysis, implementation, and verification using MIL, SIL, and HIL techniques consistent with design requirementsDesigning and providing technical documents for the developed controlsDesigning, modeling, and integrating software functionalities in a real-time embedded environmentDeveloping and analyzing requirementsDeveloping controls solutions using the MBD techniqueEnsuring process compliance and configuration managementFollowing common problem-solving techniques, such as 5 why’s, fishbone, etc.Participating in software reviewsProviding technical support, guidance, and collaboration for all software/hardware implementationWorking with product development teams to design and develop control algorithmsField Services-Specific ResponsibilitiesParticipate in daily field issue triage meetings where customer-reported issues are reviewed and prioritizedAct as a first-line technical owner to evaluate issues, identify the source (software, controls, integration, or hardware), and drive root cause analysisDevelop initial problem assessments and potential solution approaches, then coordinate handoff to the appropriate product or platform teams for resolutionDemonstrate strong system-level thinking to assess impacts across subsystems and interfacesProvide clear, concise communication to internal teams and customer stakeholders on issue status and findingsSupport software deployment/loading issues encountered in the fieldCollaborate across cross-functional and geographically distributed teams to resolve time-sensitive issuesExhibit flexibility to respond to urgent field problems and shifting prioritiesTravel as needed to locomotive units or customer sites to diagnose issues, capture data, and support root cause investigationsMinimum QualificationsMust be willing to work onsite in Erie, PennsylvaniaBachelor’s or Master’s Degree in mechanical, electrical or computer engineering and 3+ years of pertinent experienceKnowledge and capability in software such as MATLAB/Simulink/StateflowAdvanced level knowledge and capability in Modeling/Simulation skillsAdvanced level knowledge and capability of at least one scripting languageUnderstanding of communication protocolUnderstanding of control systems in automotive or medical devicesUnderstanding of HIL systemsUser level knowledge and capability in UML and architecturesUser level knowledge and capability of at least one calibration toolUser level knowledge and capability of at least one standard code editorUser level knowledge and capability of MBD design guidelinesUser level knowledge and capability of Version Control/Requirements Management softwareAbility to perform gap analysisAbility to decipher highly technical dataUser level knowledge of Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous development (CD)Ability to multi-task in an ever-changing time intensive work environmentAbility to solve complex problems and meet tight deadlinesAbility to work in cross-functional teamsStrong system-level thinking and root cause analysis capabilityExcellent communication and collaboration skills, including customer-facing interactionsWillingness to travel for field diagnostics and issue resolution as neededLocomotive domain knowledge is a plusEEO Statement: LHP, Inc. is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under federal, state, or local law.ADA Statement: LHP, Inc. will make reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
