Direct Support Professional

Direct Support Professional – DSP Reports to the QDDP The individual holding this position is responsible for implementing the goals, objectives and strategies in the treatment plan to support the individual with achieving his/her outcomes. Overview of Duties and Responsibilities Enabling individuals to acquire, improve, and maintain maximum functional abilities by providing support as needed• Providing for the individual’s safety in their home as well as in the community• Training and supporting individuals in areas of self-care, activities of daily living, behavioral management, peer interactions and providing opportunities for community and social integration.• Provide support and assistance in the maintenance of their homes environment• Adhering to regulations by the Offices of Licensure & Human Rights, the Department of Social Services, and HCBS rules by Medicaid• Exercising effective oral and written communication skills• Documenting support and services as delivered• Providing supervision of individuals during service provision• Monitor self-administering of medication as required and properly documenting• Implementing behavioral management techniques • Working beyond the required hours in emergencies• Transporting individuals to appointments, work/day support activities or community events as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to implement supports and training for individuals that have developmental, physical and mental disabilities in personal care, social, environmental and safety awareness• Knowledge of community resources• Ability to follow regulations of the agency, DBHDS, Office of Human Rights and Medicaid regarding HCBS regulations • Demonstrated abilities in documentation and interpersonal skills • Ability to supervise adults in a non-center-based day support setting to ensure safety of self and others • Knowledge of medication and behavioral principles• Ability to document supports and demonstrate effective verbal skills• Knowledge and ability to respond and make appropriate decisions in a crisis and medical emergency Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and hold either a high school diploma or GED with one year of experience working with adults that have developmental, intellectual, developmental, mental and physical disabilities• A valid Virginia driver’s license • Current DMV driving record • Successfully pass a state and national background investigation and a registry check by the Virginia Department of Social Services• Certifications are required for Human Rights, DSP Orientation, TOVA, First Aid, CPR, Medication Management and Food Handler• If qualified for the position, employment may begin once a disclosure statement and a field print appointment has been scheduled for processing. Continued employment is based upon the satisfactory outcome of a criminal background investigation and a registry check by the Department of Social Services Job Type: Part-time Pay: $15.84 - $16.62 per hour Expected hours: 15 – 38 per week Benefits: Flexible schedule Referral program Schedule: Monday to Friday Weekends as needed Work Location: In person
