Behavioral Health Outreach Worker

Bureau: Behavioral Health | System Training, Education and Prevention ServicesFull-Time County Contractual Position open to all qualified candidates. Optional deferred compensation program at employee's own expense.Job DescriptionNature of Work:Primarily responsible for the operational maintenance of the Health-to-Go Vending Machine program and providing administrative and logistical support to the Overdose Education Naloxone Distribution Coordinator. Ensure consistent supply availability and accurate data reporting to maintain the county's Health-to-Go vending machine program infrastructure, which distributes overdose-prevention and other supplies. Secondarily, conduct peer-delivered street outreach with the Anne Arundel Peers Offering Wellness Education and Resources (AA POWER) program.AA POWER is an overdose prevention, peer-delivered direct street outreach program consisting of a network of people with lived experience related to drug use. AA POWER aims to reduce risks associated with drug use, such as drug overdoses and the spread of infectious disease, and to improve overall physical, mental, and societal health by providing risk reduction strategies through infectious disease testing, overdose prevention training, and referrals related to drug use, substance use disorder, treatment and recovery. AA POWER engages people with lived experience and mobilizes community members to distribute overdose prevention education and tools.AA POWER members provide tertiary prevention outreach, training, and advocacy, and receive ongoing training and professional development. Work environments may include, but are not limited to, outdoor settings (e.g., during street outreach), community-based organizations throughout the county, and Department of Health offices.Must be prepared to work in various weather conditions and community settings. Required to have a personal vehicle and a valid driver’s license for travel to various locations throughout Anne Arundel County for vending machine maintenance, meetings and other business-related needs.EducationMinimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or Equivalency (GED).ExperienceMinimum of two years of recovery from a substance use or co-occurring disorder. Lived experience related to drug use or recovery preferred. Knowledge of the tertiary prevention framework and services, overdose prevention strategies, social services and health resources. Experience working with marginalized communities. Some experience with technology, specifically Gmail, Google Calendar and Drive. Excellent and situation-appropriate oral and written communication skills. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
