GIS Developer

We are seeking an experienced ESRI GIS Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise geospatial applications and web services in support of USDA environmental and conservation programs. The ideal candidate will bridge software engineering with advanced spatial analysis, automating workflows, building custom applications, and integrating complex environmental datasets (e.g., land use, soil data, conservation planning) across the ArcGIS Enterprise and Online environment. Key Responsibilities Application Development: Design, develop, and deploy user-friendly web GIS applications and dashboards using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript and Python. Geoprocessing & Automation: Write and optimize Python scripts (using ArcPy and ArcGIS API) to automate geoprocessing tasks, data updates, and quality assurance workflows. System Integration: Integrate GIS capabilities with existing USDA enterprise systems, databases, and third-party RESTful APIs to ensure seamless data flows. Database Management: Maintain and design enterprise geodatabases, optimize SQL queries, and ensure spatial data integrity. Cloud Operations: Support GIS infrastructure (ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal) in cloud environments (AWS/Azure) and participate in CI/CD DevOps practices. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work alongside USDA GIS managers and user community to translate business requirements into technical geospatial solutions. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. Experience: 3–5 years of hands-on experience developing within the Esri ecosystem, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online. Programming: Proficiency in Python (ArcPy, ArcGIS API) and front-end development languages like JavaScript/TypeScript. Database Skills: Strong knowledge of geospatial database design and relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL. Clearance: Ability to pass a U.S. Federal Background Investigation for Public Trust clearance. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with federal agricultural or environmental programs and managing open or regulatory environmental datasets. Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure and containerization tools (Docker). Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies. Esri Technical Certification or GISP (GIS Professional) certification. Pay: $125,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year Work Location: Remote
