Kauhale Intake Specialist - Behavioral Health

Mental Health Kokua (MHK) is hiring a Kauhale Intake Specialist to support residents entering the Kauhale supportive housing community at the Iwilei Center on Oahu. This role serves as the first point of contact for new residents and plays an important role in helping individuals transition safely and respectfully into housing and supportive services.In this role, you will guide new residents through the intake process, confirm eligibility and documentation, and coordinate with care teams to ensure each individual begins their housing journey with the support and resources they need.What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)Screening & Documentation: Confirm eligibility, collect required paperwork, and upload records to NextStepResident Orientation: Explain program expectations, introduce staff, and provide tours of the Kauhale communityTeam Coordination: Work with care teams to schedule assessments and communicate safety considerationsResource Support: Assist residents with benefits enrollment and community resource referralsData Management: Maintain accurate entries in HMIS and NextStep while ensuring file confidentialitySafety Monitoring: Observe residents for signs of distress or crisis and follow emergency protocols when neededClient Transitions: Complete intake and exit documentation according to established proceduresIntake Specialist QualificationsMinimum: High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years in behavioral health, housing, or social servicesPreferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field; experience with HMIS or NextStep data systemsCurrent TB clearance, CPR, and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)Must pass a criminal background check and drug screeningAble to lift up to 25 lbs and respond to facility-related needsRequirements & Work ConditionsAbility to work assigned schedules in a community-based supportive housing environmentWork involves standing, walking, and occasional liftingWork takes place in a residential supportive housing setting serving adults with mental health challengesBenefits of Joining MHKMedical & Vision Insurance (UHA or Kaiser)Dental Insurance (HDS)Supplemental & Pet Insurance403(b) Retirement PlanIdentity Theft & Legal ProtectionPaid Leave & Holiday PayPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibilityWhy Choose Mental Health Kokua?At Mental Health Kokua, we believe in “Opportunities to Begin Again.” As a Kauhale Intake Specialist, you will help individuals take their first steps toward housing stability, recovery, and community connection.Your work helps create a safe and welcoming start for people entering supportive housing.Apply today and help build opportunities to begin again!Compensation details: 22-25 Hourly WagePI2386237a55c8-37483-39924822
