Concrete Form Carpenter - Heavy Civil / Highway Construction

Position Summary This is a large long-term heavy civil project expected to last 3+ years, offering stable work opportunities for dependable candidates seeking long-duration project employment. The Concrete Form Carpenter is responsible for constructing, setting, and stripping concrete formwork on heavy civil and highway construction projects. This position supports the construction of DOT infrastructure including bridges, retaining walls, drainage structures, barriers, culverts, and structural concrete components associated with roadway projects. Candidates should have experience working on active highway or heavy civil sites and be comfortable working around heavy equipment, traffic control zones, excavation operations, and large structural concrete pours. Key Responsibilities Build, install, brace, and strip concrete form systems Construct forms for Bridge footings Abutments Wing walls Retaining walls Barrier walls Box culverts Headwalls Drainage structures Sign foundations Light pole foundations Curbs and concrete flatwork Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and layout information Measure, cut, and assemble wood and engineered form systems Install embeds, chamfers, anchor bolts, and blockouts Assist with bridge deck forming and overhang systems Work alongside laborers, operators, ironworkers, and finishers Maintain proper elevations, alignment, and structural tolerances Safely strip forms after concrete cure Maintain clean and organized work areas Follow all OSHA, DOT, and site-specific safety requirements Required Qualifications 3+ years of concrete form carpentry experience in heavy civil or highway construction Ability to read construction drawings and layout details Experience with structural concrete forming systems Ability to use hand tools, power tools, lasers, and measuring equipment Familiarity with DOT roadway construction environments Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Reliable transportation to project site Preferred Experience DOT bridge or highway project experience Experience with Doka Symons EFCO PERI Job-built form systems Experience working around cranes and excavation operations Understanding of rebar placement coordination Experience working from survey/layout control points Physical Requirements Lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly Climb ladders, scaffolding, and work on elevated surfaces Stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods Work near active heavy equipment and traffic control zones Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed Safety Requirements Must follow all company and project safety procedures PPE required at all times Experience working safely around Excavations Heavy equipment Crane picks Elevated work areas Active roadway construction zones OSHA 10 preferred. Compensation Pay Range: $28 – $40/hour depending on experience and project type Overtime available Per diem available for qualified travelers Benefits package available (if applicable) Work Schedule Typical schedule: 50–60 hours per week Day shift and occasional night work possible Weekend work may be required based on project schedule Production Expectations Qualified candidates should be able to Independently build and set structural concrete forms Maintain production pacing required for highway schedules Work efficiently with minimal supervision Produce quality work meeting DOT inspection standards Coordinate effectively with field crews and supervision Work Environment This position is performed on active heavy civil and highway construction sites and may involve work around traffic, bridge structures, excavations, and large concrete placements.
