Director of Finance
$2B New York–based venture capital fund that is adding a Director of Finance to its senior finance leadership team. This is a highly visible role partnering closely with the CFO and investment team at a well‑established, institutional platform. The Director of Finance will oversee core fund and management company finance across a growing portfolio, with responsibility spanning fund accounting and reporting, audit and tax oversight, valuation processes, investor reporting, and financial operations. The role offers meaningful exposure to firm leadership and investment professionals, as well as the opportunity to help scale systems and processes as the platform continues to grow. Key Responsibilities Fund Accounting & Financial Reporting • Lead the quarterly and annual NAV close process; review and approve fund financials, capital account statements, and supporting workpapers.• Oversee portfolio company valuation workflows, ensuring compliance with ASC 820 and internal valuation policies.• Manage waterfall calculations, carried interest allocations, and distribution modeling.• Ensure accurate GAAP-compliant financials across funds, feeder vehicles, co-invests, and SPVs.Capital Activity & Investor Communications • Support fundraising efforts by preparing responses for DDQs, RFPs, and LP due diligence. • Oversee and review capital call and distribution notices, including calculations and partnership allocations.• Maintain investor capital accounts and commitment tracking across complex multi-entity structures.Management Company • Manage accounting responsibilities within the quarterly close cycle for both management companies and GP entities• Perform a detailed monthly review of P&L activity• Responsible for all facets of the expense allocation close process including reviewing and analyzing all expenses booked• Manage consolidated quarterly financial reporting including financial statements• Present quarterly financial results to leadership• Help develop and maintain efficient internal controls and business processes• Continuously identify efficiencies and improve effectiveness by determining best practiceInternal Collaboration • Partner with investment teams on deal closings, fundings, and exit modeling.• Provide performance, financial, and analytics support to senior leadership.Audit, Tax, and Compliance • Coordinate with external auditors on annual audits; ensure timely delivery of audit packages.• Manage tax service providers for K-1s, PFICs, FATCA/CRS, and other regulatory requirements.• Ensure ongoing compliance with fund governing documents, policies, and regulatory obligations.Treasury & Operations • Oversee cash management, liquidity planning, and credit facility compliance.• Manage banking relationships, capital call lines, and operational controls.• Enhance processes, systems, and internal controls (e.g., Yardi, Investran, eFront, or similar).QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or related field10-15+ years' of experience in finance or accountingPrevious experience from a boutique fund environmentStrong communication and analytical skills
