K-8th Special Education Teacher
Position SummaryThe Special Education Teacher is responsible for managing a caseload of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans, ensuring that all services and accommodations outlined in student plans are implemented with fidelity. The Special Education Teacher provides direct and indirect instructional support, collaborates closely with general education teachers and families, and supports students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth in a positive and structured learning environment.ResponsibilitiesProvide direct and indirect instructional support to students in accordance with their IEPs and/or 504 Plans.Develop and communicate clear learning objectives for lessons and student support sessions.Utilize specialized instructional strategies and techniques to support the development of language, cognition, memory, sensory, and perceptual-motor skills.Deliver instruction using a variety of evidence-based approaches, including phonics, multi-sensory learning, repetition, and differentiated instruction to meet diverse student needs.Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning in alignment with the school-wide behavior management system.Maintain accurate and complete service logs, lesson plans, progress monitoring data, and required documentation in compliance with school, district, state, and federal regulations.Attend and actively participate in IEP meetings for students on assigned caseloads.Complete quarterly progress reports for students receiving special education services.Serve as the primary case manager and point person for students on assigned caseloads.Collaborate regularly with parents, administrators, school psychologists, social workers, related service providers, and general education teachers to support student success and develop appropriate educational programming.Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team and attend regular team meetings with faculty and staff.Assist in the preparation and administration of standardized assessments and testing accommodations.Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development, curriculum planning, and staff training opportunities.Perform additional duties as assigned, including supervision and other school-related responsibilities.QualificationsBachelor’s degree required; degree in Special Education or related field preferred.Massachusetts licensure in Special Education preferred or ability to obtain licensure.SEI Endorsement required.Strong understanding of IEP development, implementation, and compliance procedures.Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, faculty, and support staff.Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.Experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
