Primary Job FunctionsGeneral ResponsibilitiesProvides support to youth by building trusting relationshipsSupports, coaches and trains youth in age-appropriate behaviorsSupports, coaches and trains youth to demonstrate problem-solving and conflict resolution skillsOffers support and guidance to youth as they receive servicesParticipates in one-on-one meetings or treatment team meetings to discuss ideas, difficulties, suggestions, and expectationsProvides social interaction, both individually and as a group, to develop social and recreational skills and to help participants develop insight into their mental illnessPromotes recovery-oriented skills to help achieve goals created in the treatment planConnects youth and young adults to community supports, natural supports and additional programsAssist participants in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy and advocates on behalf of participant when neededActs as a resource and safe person for youth to approach with questions, concerns and accomplishmentsPlans and conducts peer support groups focusing on topics related to recoveryOther tasks as assigned by supervisorClinical Record KeepingDocuments in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policyDocuments legibly and in a clear and concise mannerDocuments individualized participant responses to services providedSupervision and ConsultationSeeks supervision and consultation as neededAccepts and employs suggestions for improvementActively works to enhance skillsAttends and participates in staff meetings as requiredCourteous and respectful attitudes towards participants, visitors and co-workersTreats participants with care, dignity and compassionRespects participant’s privacy and confidentialityIs pleasant and cooperative with othersAssists participants and visitors as neededPersonal values don’t inhibit ability to relate and care for othersIs sensitive to the participant’s needs, expectations and individual differencesIs gentle and calm with participants and familiesAdministrative and Other Related Duties as AssignedActively participates in Performance Improvement activitiesActively participates in AltaPointe committees as requiredCompletes assigned tasks in a timely mannerFollows AltaPointe policies and proceduresAttends appropriate in-services training and other workshopsHigh school diploma or its equivalent; a valid, verifiable driver’s license, a good driving record, reliable transportation and verifiable vehicle liability insurance; ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekend hours; ability to attend DMH-approved Therapeutic Mentor training for certification; knowledge of youth/young adult specific competencies, outlined below, to be attained within six (6) months of employmentKnowledge of psychiatric disorders in the youth/young adult populationKnowledge of cultural diversityKnowledge of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standardsKnowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, as well as non-violent crisis intervention practices.Knowledge of a recovery-oriented treatment approachAbility to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teamAbility to connect to youth/young adults and share skills and knowledge with others
