Maintenance Technician
Role Overview
Located in Plainfield, IL, this position offers a compensation range of $27 to $37 per hour. You will work a rotating 2-2-3 schedule from 7pm to 7am. As a Maintenance Technician, you will oversee mechanical reliability for the facility, providing essential support to the Plant and Production Managers regarding all mechanical maintenance operations.
Core Responsibilities
Maintain equipment to ensure safe, efficient operation that meets or exceeds OEE and quality standards.
Strictly adhere to all established Lockout/Tag out safety protocols.
Take initiative to identify and resolve unsafe conditions on production machinery to help maintain a safe working environment for the entire team.
Manage production equipment processing and keep accurate documentation for all process adjustments.
Proactively identify and correct inefficiencies within production equipment.
Execute maintenance tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
Operate shop power tools safely to prevent injury to yourself or your colleagues.
Complete all scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
Take initiative to address machine inefficiencies during routine preventative maintenance.
Review operator feedback and checklists before starting preventative maintenance to ensure all causes of inefficiency are addressed.
Ensure all production equipment is cleaned and restored to showroom condition following maintenance.
Continuously assess equipment for potential improvements and tag components for repair or replacement per TPM guidelines.
Execute equipment changeovers while minimizing production downtime.
Verify that production equipment is operating safely and efficiently after every changeover.
Perform general building maintenance tasks as requested by management.
Record all parts removed from inventory to maintain accurate SAP records.
Alert the Maintenance Manager when parts stock reaches re-order levels.
Finalize all documentation required for completed work orders.
Collaborate with the Production Manager to suggest training topics and support employee development.
Foster a culture of cleanliness to ensure the plant appearance consistently exceeds expectations.
Troubleshoot and repair plant machinery, including blow molding and extrusion equipment, to help maximize overall equipment availability.
Assist with the installation, wiring, and programming of equipment to ensure it meets operational specifications.
Diagnose complex mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical issues on systems like robots and chillers to implement effective, long-term solutions.
Demonstrate a solid understanding of machine processing and recipe management.
Determine the correct tools and equipment required for each specific task.
Coordinate with external vendors or contractors as necessary.
Drive operational improvements related to line speeds, spoilage, and downtime.
Maintain clear communication with management and production staff regarding progress and improvement ideas.
Follow all company safety policies, GMP practices, and Global Food Safety standards to ensure a compliant workplace.
Complete additional projects or duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Technical School Certification is preferred.
3-5 years of relevant manufacturing experience, ideally within plastics technology.
Ability to communicate technical system issues clearly and effectively.
Strong mechanical maintenance background with expert knowledge of hand and power tools.
Proven understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
Proficiency with computer systems, specifically MS Office and SAP.
Strong hands-on approach to problem-solving.
Ability to work independently, identify issues, and drive improvements.
Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing pressure.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and varying schedules as needed.
Physical ability to stand for long periods, move safely through the plant, climb ladders, lift 50-75 pounds, and work in extreme temperatures to ensure all equipment is properly maintained.
Ability to operate a forklift and obtain necessary certification.
