Opportunity Summary:
The Utility Jockey position is a “Delivery Driver in Training”. The Utility Jockeys will work in the yard and do jockey work while also be in training to learn how to become a delivery driver. This position applies only to those with a valid CDL and has less than 1 year recent experience.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
How you will make contributions that matter:
Placed in a yard bid for training.
Dedicated to yard bid training for a minimum 2 weeks.
Offered specials and other deliveries, when possible, in compliance with the seniority rights.
To be run in the straight truck only.
Delivery training can begin for utility jockeys after 3 months of employment assuming satisfactory performance.
Or sooner, if the manager signs off.
Once a utility driver is deemed qualified for route training, they should be taken on a qualifying driving test performed by a trainer.
If this test is not passed, the utility jockey will continue as a jockey with no route training opportunity for at least another 60 days.
If this test is passed, the utility jockey is then qualified to proceed to route training with experienced route drivers.
Scheduling for route training will be done at the company’s discretion and will be done with a driver trainer who agrees to be a ride-along driver.
Utility Jockey’s will be scheduled for routes each month to proceed through the training program as prescribed to advance to a full route driver.
Assist in inventory of raw material and finished goods.
Maneuvering trucks from yard to building and back.
Communicate effectively with Warehouse operations to spot trucks and trailers in dock for loading.
Load and unload trucks and secure products in accordance with customer requirements, as needed.
Maintain truck operating efficiency by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
Other duties may be assigned.
What You'll Bring:
Education – High School Diploma or GED.
Experience – 6 months or more of class A CDL driving experience preferred, training and full-time driver potential will be based on the experience the driver has with their CDL, valid driver's license, and clean driving record. No experience is accepted.
Other Required Skills or Abilities –Safety management, basic math skills, developing standard operating procedures, managing processes, reporting skills, analyzing information, and equipment maintenance.
