This role focuses on building and maintaining backend services and APIs that power our web applications—primarily using PHP (Laravel)—and supporting reliable data flows between systems.The ideal candidate is eager to learn, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in writing clean, maintainable code while collaborating closely with engineers, product, and UX teams.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain backend features using PHP (Laravel) to support product and business needsBuild and support RESTful APIs used by internal tools and customer-facing applicationsWork with databases (primarily MySQL) to design schemas, write queries, and improve performanceImplement validation, authentication/authorization, and secure data handling best practicesWrite clean, testable code; assist with debugging, bug fixes, and production supportCollaborate with front-end developers to integrate APIs and ensure smooth end-to-end functionalityParticipate in code reviews and follow established development standards and processesDocument backend endpoints, workflows, and technical decisions as neededStay current with backend development best practices and Laravel/PHP improvementsWho You AreGrowth-minded with a desire to continuously expand backend and system design knowledgeComfortable working in a team environment and asking great questionsPassionate, creative, and efficient problem solverDetail-oriented with a strong focus on reliability, security, and maintainabilityAble to communicate progress, blockers, and solutions clearlyQualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)Hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel (coursework, projects, internships, or professional)Understanding of backend fundamentals: APIs, MVC patterns, authentication, data modelingExperience with relational databases such as MySQL (queries, indexing basics a plus)Familiarity with Git; Jira/Confluence experience is a plusBasic understanding of HTML/CSS/JavaScript is helpful for collaborating across the stackStrong written and verbal communication skillsTakes pride in producing high-quality, maintainable workWhat We OfferAt EarthCam, we believe great work starts with feeling supported, valued, and inspired.
