Engineering Technician I
The St. Louis County Department of Transportation is looking for an Engineering Technician I. This full time position is assigned to Traffic Studies which is located at Operations District 2 in Maryland Heights. The position is part of the count crew, primarily responsible for deployment/retrieval of automatic counters and performing various manual counts. Typical work hours will be 7:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday - Friday 5:30 a.m. -2:00 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. depending on need.
The typical starting salary will be $20.00 - $24.00 hourly depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience as well as budgetary considerations. This position will be required to work snow or emergency duty and will receive a $6 per hour increase.

Examples of Duties
Essential Function Examples
Assist with inspections of roadway construction sites and concrete replacement projects to ensure compliance with construction specifications, plans and procedures.
Prepare samples for laboratory testing and may perform a variety of routine field and laboratory testing procedures on construction materials to ensure conformance with specifications.
Assist in the collection of traffic related data to provide engineering staff with accurate information for study analysis.
Assist with construction plan interpretation, report preparation and fielding inquiries from the general public.
Perform safety checks of work sites and observe work in progress for compliance with established work procedures.
Marginal Function Examples
Perform assigned duties during mandatory snow shift.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent to one year of roadway or related construction inspection experience.
Possession of a valid Drivers License.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.
Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. Once questions are scored, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
On Call employees are paid only for the hours actually worked. There are no additional benefits.
