Location: Midwest United States (On-Site)Employment Type: Full-TimePosition OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial operations of a rural healthcare organization in the Midwest. This executive will partner closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to stabilize financial performance, execute a comprehensive turnaround strategy, and position the organization for long-term sustainability.The ideal candidate brings deep rural healthcare experience, a hands-on leadership approach, and a proven ability to drive financial and operational improvement in complex environments.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership & Turnaround StrategyAssess the organization’s current financial position, including cash flow, accounts receivable, cost structure, and reimbursement performanceLead the development and execution of a comprehensive financial recovery planEstablish clear milestones, accountability, and reporting cadence to track progressExecutive & Board PartnershipServe as a strategic advisor to the CEO on financial and operational mattersDeliver transparent, timely, and actionable financial reporting to the Board of DirectorsBuild credibility and confidence with internal and external stakeholdersCash Flow & Revenue OptimizationStabilize cash flow and liquidity through revenue cycle improvements and disciplined expense managementIdentify and implement opportunities to optimize reimbursement and payer contractsRevenue Cycle ManagementOversee and strengthen revenue cycle operations, including billing, collections, and denial managementDrive measurable improvements in key performance indicatorsHealthcare Reimbursement OversightProvide leadership on reimbursement strategies, including Medicare and rural health programs such as Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) and Rural Health Clinics (RHC)Organizational & Operational LeadershipEvaluate and strengthen the finance and revenue cycle teamsIdentify talent gaps and build a sustainable, high-performing organizational structurePartner with operational leaders to prioritize and execute high-impact improvement initiativesStakeholder EngagementCollaborate with lenders, regulatory agencies, and community partners to support the organization’s financial recovery and long-term viabilityRepresent the organization in financial discussions with external stakeholdersTechnology, Analytics & ReportingEnhance financial systems, reporting, and forecasting capabilitiesImprove data visibility to support informed decision-makingQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredCPA preferred (or required, depending on candidate profile)Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a CFO or senior finance leadership roleDirect experience in rural healthcare environments, including Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) and/or Rural Health Clinics (RHC)Strong knowledge of Medicare reimbursement and rural healthcare financial dynamicsDemonstrated success in financial turnaround, cash flow stabilization, and operational improvementPreferred AttributesProven ability to lead in turnaround or financially distressed environmentsHands-on, execution-focused leadership styleStrong communication and stakeholder management skillsCommitment to serving rural communities
