Description
The Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor position in the Department of Computer Science, beginning September 1, 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable position.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, pursue scholarly and professional activities, and contribute to departmental and university service. Candidates with expertise in any area of computer science are encouraged to apply.
The Department of Computer Science offers bachelor’s degrees in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science and Mathematics, Cybersecurity, and Data Science and Machine Learning, as well as master’s degrees in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Data Science. Concentration areas include Artificial Intelligence, Gaming and Graphics, Leadership and Innovation in Computing, Medical Devices, Networking and Security, and Web Engineering. Faculty research spans a wide range of areas such as AI, autonomous vehicles, cloud computing, computational algebra, cyber-physical systems, cybersecurity, high-performance architecture, information theory, logic, programming languages, parallel heterogeneous computing systems, and security and privacy.
The department is housed in the recently constructed Science and Innovation Center, featuring state-of-the-art academic and research facilities, including a $1.5 million high-performance computing (HPC) cluster. The department is committed to supporting the research and professional development of all full-time faculty members.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teaches a range of computer science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, based on departmental needs and individual expertise.
Conducts research and engages in ongoing professional and scholarly activities.
Participates in departmental, school, and university service.
Mentors students and supervises independent and interdisciplinary research projects.
Collaborates with colleagues to advance departmental goals and initiatives.
Qualifications
Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Computer Science or a closely related field is required.
Demonstrated record of academic scholarship, research, and other scholarly activities.
Preferred Quals Summary
Demonstrates commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, including mentoring students, directing independent projects, and involving both undergraduate and M.S. students in research.
Preference will be given to candidates with teaching or research experience in one or more of the following areas: Data Science and Machine Learning, Computational Biology, Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality, Quantum Computing.

Salary/Salary Range
$100,000-$110,000

Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education. In addition to the salary offered, we offer a collegial and inclusive culture, and a benefits program which includes generous paid time off, paid holidays, tuition remission for employees and eligible dependents, and a retirement plan with University contributions.
Salary ranges indicated for positions covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement are in accordance with the CBA.
