Director of Children's Ministries
PURPOSE: Responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing the comprehensive program of Children’s Ministries, which encompasses children from birth through fifth grade for Grace Presbyterian Church. Serve as the primary staff resource for Elementary (kindergarten through fifth grade) children and their families, which are relational, holistic, intergenerational, and team oriented. This ministry will be shaped by an understanding of reformed theology and reflect an understanding of the theory and practice of Christian Education and Discipleship as it relates to children and their families. Serve as a collaborative part of the staff team to assist the Grace congregation and the community to Come Live Differently.ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Director of Family Ministries in partnership with the Equipping Pastor.RESPONSIBILITY:Leadership & Vision: Provide leadership and vision for Children’s Ministries in the development of a unified strategic plan that includes clearly defined values, leadership development, evangelism, disciple making, worship, Bible teaching, personal accountability, and on-going evaluation.Staff Leadership: Provide direction, vision, strategic development, supervision, and coaching for the paid Children’s Ministries staff and interns. Provide ongoing coordination and evaluation of the distribution of responsibilities for Children’s Ministries staff.Volunteer Leadership: Recruit, train, and support Children’s Ministries teachers/leaders. Provide ongoing orientation and training (including established security policies, training, and implementation). Plan and implement teacher/leader development and appreciation.Curriculum: Design, select, and implement all curriculum for Nursery through fifth grade.Vacation Bible School (VBS): Orchestrate the comprehensive planning, implementation, and evaluation of VBS. Hire & supervise necessary outside professional services. Backyard and Treehouse: Provide primary leadership and direction for the Backyard and TreeHouse large group environments. Participate in regular Backyard and TreeHouse planning meetings. Serve as a host or teacher in the Backyard and TreeHouse large group environments. Maintain the organization and inventory of the greenroom.Grace Kids Music (GKM) Support: Coordinate with the Director of Family Ministries and Director of Worship to provide leadership, direction, and evaluation of the GKM program for kindergarten through fifth-grade children.Grace School: Along with the Director of Family Ministries, serve as a liaison to Grace School faculty, staff, and parents as an ambassador of Grace Presbyterian Church. Provide oversight for all Family Ministry associates and interns interfacing with Grace School. Provide curriculum direction and purchase of Primary School and Lower School Bible curriculum. Provide pastoral care for Grace Primary School and Lower School children and families.Events: Provide leadership, direction, and evaluations for the Children’s Ministries events. This is not limited to, but includes: the purchase of necessary materials, volunteer coordination, donation coordination, programing, and the delegation of other responsibilities as needed for a successful event. Milestone Ministry: Plan, implement, and evaluate Children’s Sacrament and Worship training classes. Christmas Eve Family Service: Coordinate with the Leadership Team to provide leadership as needed for Christmas Eve services.Special Needs: Provide leadership and planning for special needs children, as needed.Budget: Provide administrative supervision of the Nursery and the Children’s Ministries budgets. Maintain regular payroll for interns.Communications: In conjunction with the Grace Church communication staff oversee all Children’s Ministries communications, including all print, web, social media, and marketing resources. Leadership Team Responsibilities: Represent Children’s Ministries in attending Tactical and Strategic meetings, Covenant Partner classes, Session Meetings, and Stewardship events. Transition Ministry: In cooperation with the Director of Family Ministries and Student Ministries Associates, develop a unified approach to ministry, enabling a seamless transition from one department to another.Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral care to children and their families, as needed.Worship: Assist in worship leadership, as needed.
