Job Title: Maintenance TechnicianDepartment: MaintenanceReports To: Senior Vice PresidentRevised Date: April 2026FLSA Status:ExemptSummaryThe Maintenance Technician oversees and coordinates the maintenance and repair of all buildings and property at the campus for which he/she has been hired to serve at. This person must discern if his/her skills, training, and experience are sufficient to remedy the issue or if a professional contractor should be considered. This position helps in the negotiation and coordination of contracts with outside vendors and directs the contractor to assure the satisfactory completion of the contract. The Maintenance Technician also works with volunteers on light duty and renovation projects, providing support and materials as needed.QualificationsPersonal commitment to Jesus Christ and alignment with the statement of faith of BCHMeets the general employment qualifications as outlined in the personnel policies of the agency.High school diploma or GED, plus two years of continued education and/or training and 5 years maintenance experience.Knowledge and ability to operate various types of tools and power equipment safely and efficiently.Must be able to work inside and outdoors in varying conditions without restrictions.Effectively handle and lift various objects weighing up to 60 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.Positive leadership characteristics, as well as previous supervisory experience are preferred.Ability to work from a ladder or at heights off of the ground to complete repairs.Must exhibit good people skills and teamwork when working with subordinates, staff, and volunteers.Demonstrates initiative in handling tasks and capability to function independently.Must be available to respond to “maintenance on call” outside of normal business hours.Has experience in general maintenance work, including secondary electrical lines, plumbing, building repair, carpentry, and grounds maintenance.ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates with the Senior Vice President and/or with the site Director in the semi-annual inspection of BCH facilities. Develop and implement an annual maintenance plan with established priorities for budgeting and allocation of resources.Participates with the Senior Vice President in the development of contracts with outside vendors for new construction and maintenance work. Directs the contractor in the satisfactory completion of the task(s).Ensures the availability of adequate equipment and materials for jobs in progress.Purchases the required materials to complete the task efficiently and safely. Always seeks the best cost option when considering materials and contractors.Maintains up-to-date and accurate records (electronically) of maintenance work completed and a schedule for replacement purposes.Where applicable, obtains annual fire safety inspections, sanitation inspections, boiler inspections, and other building inspections as required by NC licensing standards and other regulatory agencies.Assists in overseeing maintenance of rental units.Works with vendors related to preventative maintenance systems such as HVAC, termite and pest control, fire, smoke, and carbon monoxide alarm systems, roof, and drainage systems, etc. on BCH properties.Assists Senior Vice President with overseeing major infrastructure such as roofs, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and water/sewer systems. Determines repairs and replacement schedule and costs.Works directly with contractors for renewing contracts and scheduling work. Also assists areas with contributing to special needs such as snow removal, storms, etc..May be required to work additional hours to assist with special events.Respect the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of staff members and children in care and strive to create a positive relationship within BCH.Participates in the agency’s Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program as needed.Represents Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Inc. professionally.Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. VP and site Director.Working KnowledgeSkilled knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and practices used in a Maintenance/Skilled position.Occupational hazards and safety precautions.Safe and efficient operation of various types of light and heavy-duty tools and equipment.Supervision (if a building maintenance 1 person is employed at same site):Prepares for and participates in scheduled supervisory conferences as necessary.Shows initiative and creativity in mapping information and insights gained from supervisory conferences.Keeps supervisor informed of significant occurrences in workload and projected plans.Models and applies good leadership methods when assigning duties and guiding subordinates, and communicates in a respectful manner.Participates in annual performance evaluations.Participates in training opportunities as needed or directed by management staff.Faith & Mission Alignment (BCH Requirement) BCH is a Christ-centered organization committed to sharing hope and changing lives, with beliefs rooted in Jesus Christ.
