Business Systems Analyst – Integrations & Data (SQL, APIs, Source to Target Mapping)
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Business Systems Analyst / Technical Business Analyst to support the enhancement of a large-scale, customer-facing web platform and its integrated back-end systems.This is a technical, hands-on role requiring strong experience in technical analysis, data mapping, system integrations, SQL, API development/documentation, reverse engineering, and technical documentation.The ideal candidate will work closely with architects, developers, functional business analysts, QA teams, and business stakeholders to analyze complex systems and translate business and technical requirements into detailed, build-ready documentation.Candidates with a .NET development background are highly desirable, particularly those who are comfortable contributing to development tasks while working primarily as a Technical Business Analyst / Systems Analyst. Must-Have Qualifications:10+ years of hands-on experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or Systems Analyst. Strong hands-on SQL experience, including joins, aggregations, window functions, data profiling, and data validation. Proven experience personally creating Source-to-Target (S2T) data mappings. Hands-on experience creating and documenting REST APIs, including request/response structures, JSON, authentication, status codes, and error handling. Strong experience with system integrations, including both API and batch/file integrations. Experience with reverse engineering existing applications, systems, and integrations. Ability to personally create technical documentation such as interface specifications, system design documentation, BRDs, FRDs, and SRS. Experience working with Azure DevOps and Agile/Scrum environments. Experience supporting UAT and independently validating results using SQL. Strong understanding of system architecture and upstream/downstream dependencies. Must be comfortable working hands-on with architects, developers, QA, and functional BAs. Brooklyn/NYC local or commutable and able to work onsite 5 days per week. Must be available for an in-person interview in NYC.Key Responsibilities:Gather, analyze, and document business and technical requirements for web applications and integrated back-end systems.Author BRDs, FRDs, SRS documents, and contribute to technical/system design documentation.Create detailed source-to-target (S2T) data mappings, including field-level mappings, data types, transformation rules, default/null handling, and lookups.Profile source data and validate assumptions before finalizing data mappings.Define and document REST API integrations, including endpoints, request/response payloads, JSON schemas, authentication, status codes, and error handling.Create and document APIs and perform reverse engineering of existing systems and integrations.Define specifications for both real-time API and batch/file integrations, including schedules, SLAs, control totals, reconciliation, retry, and reprocessing logic.Write hands-on SQL queries, including joins, aggregations, and window functions, to profile data, investigate discrepancies, and validate results.Develop process flows, data-flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, ERDs, and logical data models using tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, draw.io, or Enterprise Architect.Perform gap, feasibility, impact, and root-cause analysis across integrated systems.Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and use SQL to validate results.Maintain a Requirements Traceability Matrix from requirements through UAT.Manage requirements, backlog items, and sprint activities using Azure DevOps.Work closely with architects, developers, functional BAs, QA teams, and business stakeholders.Bridge business and technical teams by translating complex requirements into clear, buildable technical specifications.Required Skills & Experience:10+ years of experience in business analysis, systems analysis, requirements gathering, and project delivery.10+ years of experience with SQL, data analysis, gap analysis, and feasibility analysis.Strong hands-on experience writing SQL queries independently.10+ years of experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies.Strong experience preparing BRD, FRD, SRS, workflow, and process documentation.Hands-on experience creating integration/interface specifications and contributing to system design documents.Strong experience with source-to-target data mapping and source data profiling.Strong understanding of system architecture, upstream/downstream systems, integration patterns, and system dependencies.Experience documenting REST APIs, including request/response structures, authentication, status codes, and error handling.Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI and Postman is highly desirable.Strong understanding of both real-time API and batch/file integration patterns.Experience with error handling, reconciliation, retry, and reprocessing processes.Experience with Azure DevOps for requirements, backlog, and sprint management.Strong communication and documentation skills.Highly Desirable:.NET development background or experience working closely with .NET applications.Experience contributing to development tasks while performing Technical BA / Systems Analyst responsibilities.Experience in public sector, government, or regulated enterprise environments.Experience with large-scale benefits, entitlement, or case-management systems.Experience working with architects, developers, functional BAs, and QA teams.Ideal Candidate:The ideal candidate is a hands-on Technical Business Analyst / Systems Analyst, rather than a traditional functional BA.Candidates should be able to personally demonstrate experience with:Technical and system analysisSQL and data profilingSource-to-target mappingAPI creation and documentationIntegration specificationsReverse engineeringSystem design documentationData-flow and process diagramsUAT and SQL-based validationAzure DevOps and Agile deliveryThis role is highly hands-on.
