Lead Engineer – Microgrid & Distributed Energy Resources (DER)Location: Menasha, WI (Onsite)Duration: 12+ MonthsClient: Confidential (Details to be shared during the interview process)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to drive the design, development, integration, and validation of advanced energy technologies supporting Distributed Energy Resources (DER), microgrids, energy storage systems, EV charging infrastructure, and power distribution applications.The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in renewable energy systems, power generation, energy storage, power electronics, and system-level engineering. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions for next-generation energy systems.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design, evaluation, and integration of technologies used in microgrid, power generation, energy storage, EV charging, and data center applications.Define system requirements, performance targets, and technical specifications for new products and technologies.Characterize and benchmark components based on performance, efficiency, reliability, cost, and scalability.Develop proof-of-concept prototypes and support testing and validation activities.Create and maintain technical documentation including requirements, specifications, selection analyses, and simulation reports.Collaborate with simulation, controls, thermal, mechanical, and power electronics engineering teams to ensure successful system development.Support modeling and simulation activities by defining requirements, operating conditions, and performance expectations.Lead technology assessments and competitive benchmarking efforts.Work with controls engineers to establish functional requirements for energy management systems (EMS), microgrid controllers, and related software applications.Collaborate with Verification & Validation teams to define and execute DVP&R activities for battery energy storage and power systems.Support packaging, manufacturing, thermal management, and system integration activities.Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.8+ years of experience in system design, architecture, testing, integration, or development of energy technologies.Strong knowledge of:Microgrid systemsDistributed Energy Resources (DER)Renewable energy systems (Solar, Wind)Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)Power generation technologiesPower conversion and power electronicsExperience with system modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree in Engineering or related technical field.Experience with:Grid integration technologiesEnergy Management Systems (EMS)Microgrid controllersEV charging infrastructureData center power systemsHands-on experience using:MATLAB/SimulinkSimscapeAmesimSimilar modeling and simulation platformsFamiliarity with industry regulations, standards, and compliance requirements related to energy storage and power systems.Proven success leading engineering projects in renewable energy, microgrid, or energy storage environments.Top SkillsMicrogrid SystemsDER TechnologiesBattery Energy Storage (BESS)Renewable EnergyGrid IntegrationPower ElectronicsEnergy Management Systems (EMS)MATLAB/SimulinkSystem ArchitectureCross-Functional Engineering Leadership
