Position Overview BLOC Resources is seeking a skilled Software Developer 2 – Data Solutions Developer to support our client, Southern Company, in Birmingham, Alabama. This position will support reporting, analytics, data integration, and enterprise application development, connecting business operations with technology. The Data Solutions Developer will design, develop, enhance, and support software applications, reports, dashboards, APIs, and data-driven solutions that improve access to information and enable effective business decision-making. Key Responsibilities Software & Application Development Design, develop, test, implement, and support computer systems and application software. Develop and maintain enterprise applications using C#, .NET, Blazor, and modern web development technologies. Design and maintain REST-based APIs and other system integrations. Develop web applications and data-driven solutions that improve operational efficiency and access to business information. Evaluate existing applications and recommend software upgrades, enhancements, or modernization opportunities. Troubleshoot application issues and implement effective technical solutions. Apply modern software development practices to create secure, reliable, scalable, and maintainable applications. Participate in application testing, deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement. Reporting & Business Intelligence Design, develop, and maintain reports and dashboards supporting business operations and decision-making. Build reporting solutions using Power BI and related enterprise technologies. Translate business requirements into meaningful dashboards, visualizations, reports, and analytical solutions. Support semantic models and other reporting structures when required. Validate reporting outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability. Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and business visibility. Data Integration & Management Integrate and consolidate information from multiple enterprise systems. Develop solutions for moving, transforming, validating, and presenting business data. Perform SQL development, data analysis, data modeling, troubleshooting, and validation. Identify and resolve data-quality and integration issues. Work with enterprise data warehouses, lakehouse environments, cloud data platforms, and relational databases. Support solutions utilizing technologies such as: Databricks Microsoft SQL Server Oracle Power BI Enterprise data warehouses Cloud/lakehouse platforms Technical Collaboration Partner with business stakeholders to understand operational requirements and technology needs. Collaborate with software developers, data engineers, analysts, and technical teams to design appropriate solutions. Translate business needs into technical requirements and development plans. Communicate technical concepts in clear, business-focused language. Participate in requirements sessions, design discussions, testing, implementation, and user support. Assist stakeholders with troubleshooting and resolving application, reporting, and data-related issues. Development Lifecycle & DevOps Utilize modern source-control and development practices. Work within GitHub and/or Azure DevOps environments. Support CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes. Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and release activities. Support Azure-hosted applications and cloud deployments. Apply established development, security, documentation, and change-management standards. Required Qualifications Experience 3+ years of professional experience in software development, application development, business intelligence, reporting, or a closely related technical field. Experience developing and supporting enterprise software or business applications. Experience developing web applications, APIs, dashboards, reporting solutions, or data-driven systems. Experience integrating and consolidating information from multiple enterprise platforms. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting applications and data-related issues.
