We are hiring Co-Teachers for our In-Home locations:
Singing Brook Preschool/Toddler Kinship (3923 NE 17th Ave, Portland, OR 97212)
-Care hours: M-F 8:30-3:30
-Age range 18 months-3.5 years old
-16 children in attendance with an average of 3 teachers on shift each day
-Shift Requirement: Monday-Friday 7:30am-close (closers depart on average between 4-4:30 depending on length of closing tasks and season)

-Care Hours Monday-Wednesday 8:30-3:00
- Age Range: 12+ months
-12 children in attendance with an average of 3 teachers a day
-Shift Requirements: Monday-Wednesday 7:30-close ((closers depart on average between 3:30-4:00 depending on length of closing tasks and season)

Hourly Pay starts at $20 per hour for a Co-Teaching Position:
Sweet River Bamboo Preschool & Nursery is a Certified home based Waldorf inspired program that runs year-round. We are Earth-oriented and focus on a rhythm based on Nature with activities and practices that remind us of our ancient roots and communal ways.
We have scheduled week long breaks in August, November, December(two weeks), and March. We are closed on or around all Federal Holidays.
Loose Description of Co-Teacher Position:
*Please keep in mind we are Home based child care, which is very different than Center care. We are not simple sitting and observing. We are actively involved with the children with play and intentional activities. We are all held responsible for the rhythm of the day.
Duties
Supervise and engage with children mindfully throughout the day and keep them safe and feeling secure
Assist children with bathroom use and diaper changes
Supervise meals and playtime inside and outside. We are outside a lot.
Art activity and lesson planning prep (can be done while children are napping)
Updating our communication boards and logs
Communicating to parents at pick-up/drop off about each child’s experience that day
Clean up of classroom after nap time and at the end of the day.
Prepare each meal (breakfast, lunch, PM snack)
Qualifications:

You will need to complete the standard OCC certifications for licensed child care including your Food Handlers Card and Adult/Pediatric CPR/First Aid. How to complete these is shared in the on-boarding packet.
Experience With Children~
Preferred: At least 2 years experience, of any kind, working with more than 2 children at one time of varying ages ranging from 18 months through 5 years old.
Preferred: Experience and/or general understanding of and personal interest in Waldorf philosophy and its related domestic arts (No need to be a purist to any degree, as we are not bound to any one philosophy ourselves)
Preferred: At least one year experience (1500 accumulative hours) (can be accumulative over the course of a 3 year period) caring for (not providing extra curricular activities to) children, ranging in age from infancy to 5yrs, in a mixed-age childcare/preschool setting. Kindergarten teaching certificate and experience counts as long as it is supplemented with hands on experience caring for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, in some capacity, like nannying.

Have a thorough understanding of child development
Be able to work with other lead and co-teachers with grace and cooperation
Have an ability/interest to connect with children "heart to heart" in a loving way
Be able to lift 10-35lbs (children and classroom materials) in routine intervals throughout the day
Have a self-care routine that works for you
Be punctual and dependable
Be understanding of the energetic quality by which a Waldorf inspired program for the young child is conducted
Be patient and appreciate/use humor in difficult situations
Be a good communicator and fluent in non-violent communication
Have a good sense of one's own body awareness (The non-verbal communication the very young child receives from its caregivers is so important. Our "lessons" to them begin with how we present and carry ourselves in the classroom.)
Have an interest and appreciation for being part of a mindful school community.
Areas of Interest:
If you are an artist, musician, dancer, multi lingual, singer, herbalist, have great nature skills or love to cook- your interests, skills and passions would be greatly utilized at Sweet River Bamboo! The curriculum is created based on the skills and interest of all involved, parents, children and teachers alike. There is interest and room for input and collaboration.
Teachers who have worked at Sweet River Bamboo have shared experiencing both personal growth and an increase in knowledge and tools in regards to relating to children and their own "inner child." This program inspires growth and learning on many levels.
