Database DeveloperCore competencies: Accountability, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Detailed Orientation, Drive for results, Initiative, Relations with others and Organizational SkillsPurpose of the position: Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to develop technical Database, Reporting and Business Intelligence solutions to meet the needs of the Agency. Employees in this classification perform technical work on Database, Datawarehouse, Reporting and Business Intelligence systems.Description of essential job functions:1. Analyzes business requirements and technical support requests to determine the technical solution.2. Develops and tests database software code for technical solutions that meet or exceed the business requirements and resolve technical support requests.3. Ensures data accuracy and the implementation of business rules when developing and supporting the various databases for reporting, business intelligence and the data warehouse.4. Troubleshoots reporting, Datawarehouse, and business intelligence systems. Prepares documentation for repairing the root cause, develops software code to resolve the problem, and develops solutions to avoid such problems in the future.5. Estimates database, reporting and business intelligence development levels of effort and prepares work plans for self and other Database Developers.6. Establishes and helps to enforce database, reporting, and business intelligence coding and reporting standards.7. Designs, develops and maintains existing SSIS Packages for data movement from OLTP databases to the data warehouse reporting databases.8. Develops new and maintains existing SQL Jobs to use SQL Server Service Broker. Profiles server resource usage, and optimizes as necessary.9. Recommends data warehouse and database table designs to support development requirements for assigned projects.10. Designs, develops and maintains SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports and business intelligence reports according to prescribed requirements.11. Collaborates with other team members and stakeholders, to produce code and reports in conjunction with other ongoing Agency development projects.12. Documents current systems and maintains system documentation with build notes and code comments at check-in.13. Provides Level 3 support (on-call if necessary) for SSIS package applications, T-SQL and SQL Server Service Broker jobs that move and load data into the Agency's reporting systems.14. Participates in Peer Code Reviews.15. Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas. Keeps abreast of changes in the field. Researches new business trends. Reads and interprets professional literature. Attends training programs, workshops and seminars as appropriate.16. Performs other related work as assigned.Physical requirements:The individual assigned to this position must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, which include, but are not limited to the following: • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. • Must be able to occasionally move inside the office • Constantly operates a computer to complete assigned work • Ability to learn and apply technical material • Occasionally moves computing equipment weighing up to 50 pounds • The ability to accurately communicate with others in the Department and throughout the Agency.Required qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, or closely related field preferable; supplemented by up to four (4) to six (6) years hands on experience that includes increasing breadth and depth of knowledge leading to a wide range of proficiencies in extracting, transforming and loading data from disparate sources into a data warehousedatabase and business intelligence systems.Highly skilled to expert level knowledge in SQL Server, T-SQL, SQL Server Reporting Services reports (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Console Job using SQL Server Broker Service and business intelligence technologies.Technically competent with various software programs, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visual Studio Team System, Project, Visual Studio Development tools, SQL Management Studio, C#, VB.Net, PowerBI, MS Office desktop apps, Visio, SQL databases, web browsers, web apps, report writers, Team foundation server, Microsoft Project Web Access and Business Intelligence tools.
