Robotics Prototyping Engineer, Real2Sim

*About Palatial* Palatial builds simulation-ready 3D worlds that robotics companies and AI labs use to train robots. We are moving into real-to-sim: capturing real objects and scenes so precisely that robots trained on them work in the real world. *The role* You will build the hardware that turns real objects into simulation. The first project is a structured-light scanning rig in our office, running for an event this month and then improved week after week. Next come motion capture, robot-arm scanning, and multi-camera capture, whatever the research needs. Students and new grads are welcome; we hire for this as a full-time, part-time (half days are fine), or internship role. *What you will do*
  • *Build rigs.* Design, build, and calibrate scanning and capture rigs: structured light, cameras, turntables, lighting, motion capture, and robot arms.
  • *Write the software.* Capture, calibration, and export of scans into our 3D and simulation pipeline.
  • *Make it better every week.* Faster, more accurate, more automated; fix what breaks the same day.
*Who you are*
  • *A builder.* You build things for fun: robots, 3D printers, cameras, electronics. Show us what you have built.
  • *Hands-on with hardware.* CAD, 3D printing, wiring, microcontrollers, or robot arms.
  • *Comfortable in Python.* Computer vision, OpenCV, or ROS is a plus.
  • *Early in your career.* Current student, new grad, or up to two years of experience.
  • *All in.* You like being in the shop until the rig works, and you want to work very hard on something that matters.
*Nice to have* Structured light or photogrammetry, camera calibration, motion capture, robot arm programming, Isaac Sim or Blender. *How to apply* Send your resume and photos or a short video of something you built yourself.
