Examples of DutiesTHE POSITION & IMPACTFinancial & Clerical OperationsAssembles, matches, sorts, tabulates, checks, and files numerical data; keeps basic financial records and processes documents involved in financial transactions. Clears requisitions for payment and verifies charges and accounts. Serves as a cashier, balances daily receipts, prepares required reports, and distributes checks. Performs a variety of routine accounts payable duties, receives payments, issues receipts, and prepares bank deposits. Operates adding, calculating, and other office machines, and utilizes a computer terminal to input and retrieve data. Maintains and posts a variety of financial and statistical data for various reports from files and records. Types financial summaries, purchase orders, requisitions, memoranda, and correspondence. Posts to and maintains equipment inventory records, receives and routes mail, and answers the telephone. Customer Service & UtilitiesUtilizes data entry equipment to process customer accounts; prepares and records changes in service and new service accounts. Completes new customer account information and closes out customer accounts. Computes bills and prepares them for distribution, and audits meter readings. Initiates work orders regarding high billing and related water service problems, and updates or adjusts customer account information. Initiates collection for past due accounts and records or refunds customer deposits. Answers questions and provides information on City utility services, policies, and ordinances to customers and members of the general public. Researches status and provides current information on customer accounts as requested. May perform a variety of clerical recordkeeping duties and assist other office personnel in general clerical, cashiering, and account clerical activities. QualificationsIS THIS YOU?You are a service-driven professional with: Knowledge of modern office methods and procedures, and the basic methods and practices of financial recordkeeping. The ability to perform a variety of financial or statistical recordkeeping work of average difficulty involving independent judgment, accuracy, and speed. The ability to make arithmetical computations and type accurately from clear copy. The ability to explain City utility rate ordinances and services, and deal tactfully and courteously with the public, especially when collecting past due accounts. RequirementsWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORExperience: One year of paid experience in financial or statistical record keeping activities. Education: High School Graduation or satisfactory equivalent. Driver's LicensePossession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and good driving record. Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the3% @ 60 benefit formula. All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS. Medical Insurance- The City's contribution is capped at $1,278.40 per month towards any medical plan selected by the employee and his/her eligible dependents. Dental/Vision Insurance - Covered at 100% by the City. Short-Term Disability Covered at 100% by the City. Long-Term Disability Covered at 100% by the City. Life Insurance- $50,000 Life and AD&D covered at 100% by the City. Deferred Compensation- The City offers the CalPERS and Nationwide Retirement Solutions 457 plans. Vacation- Accrues two weeks each year with increases based on years of service. Sick Leave- 96 hours annually. Other Leave- 10 paid holidays and 4 days floating holiday leave. 4-10 Work Schedule.
