Districtwide Custodian 2nd Shift (Floater)

Job TitleBERLIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS Our Mission: We create learning experiences that promote a sense of purpose, ignite passion, and foster a sense of pride.RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform a variety of custodial and maintenance duties at a school building; do related work as requiredAssist in the maintenance and upkeep of the physical condition of a school building, grounds and equipmentClean, sweep, dust, mop, scrub and wax interior walls and floorsWash windows and polish metal and woodCollect and dispose of rubbishShovel snow, cleans walks and groundsLock and unlock premises as directedMove furniture and do simple repair workSet up tables and chairs for activities requiring suchService boiler and oil burner and set master temperature regulatorsMay drive, clean, and perform minor preventive maintenance on power mowers, snow plows and similar equipmentSafeguard school property from vandals and users of the buildingMay sand and finish floors; spot-patch walls and woodwork; paint offices, lounges, etc.QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of materials and methods used in cleaning and of the use of manual and power-driven cleaning and polishing equipmentAbility to use tools and mechanical equipment used in making minor building repairsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsAbility to perform moderately heavy manual workAbility to enforce regulations firmly but courteouslyAbility to work independentlyTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Night shift position to begin as soon as possible. Monday through Friday, 3:00pm - 11:00pm; except for days during school breaks, including the summer break, when the hours will be in the day shift as assigned. The first 90 calendar days will be paid the probationary hourly rate of $25.09. After successful completion of the probationary period, the regular hourly rate will be $27.72.
