Controls Engineer | Austin (Remote, with US based travel) | Up to $240,000Join a growing stealth start-up who are based in Austin, building laser systems for the autonomous systems market. In this role, you will own the control architecture and real-time implementation that enables precision pointing, stabilization, scanning, and actuation of advanced optical payloads. You will design and deploy closed-loop control systems that maintain exceptional accuracy and stability in demanding terrestrial and space environments.Key responsibilities:Develop advanced control algorithms for precision pointing, stabilization, scanning, and disturbance rejectionImplement real-time embedded control solutions using platforms such as C/C++, RTOS, or FPGA-based systemsBuild and validate dynamic models incorporating vibration, thermal effects, actuator behavior, and sensor performanceApply estimation and filtering techniques such as Kalman filtering and sensor fusionSupport hardware-in-the-loop testing, controller tuning, and system integrationDesign robust and fault-tolerant control architectures for high-reliability applicationsWhat we’re looking for:5+ years of experience designing and implementing precision control systemsStrong background in GNC, ADCS, controls engineering, robotics, aerospace, or defense systemsExperience closing control loops on real hardwareProficiency in control theory, dynamic modeling, and state estimationExperience with MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, embedded systems, or real-time platformsExperience with spacecraft attitude control, optical payloads, beam steering, EO/IR systems, gimbals, or precision motion systems is highly desirable
