Parks & Recreation Director

The City of Barberton is accepting resumes for a Parks & Recreation Director. This position is an exempt, unclassified position appointed by the Parks & Recreation Commission.The City is seeking a qualified Parks Director to lead the planning, development, and administration of parks and recreation programs and facilities. This position oversees staff and volunteers, manages daily operations, and works with the Commission to recommend and implement policies, programs, and projects. Responsibilities include supervising personnel, developing department procedures, preparing and managing the annual budget, monitoring expenditures, and overseeing program and facility planning, maintenance, and promotion. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of management practices, municipal government operations, parks and recreation administration, budgeting, and public relations, along with the ability to communicate effectively, analyze data, maintain accurate records, and build strong working relationships with staff, officials, and the public.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Recreation Administration, or Park Management, and certification as a Park and Recreation Professional by the National Recreation and Park Association.Minimum of five years' experience working in a park and recreation field in a professional capacity preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).Possession of a valid Ohio Driver's License and being insurable under City's insurance policy.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan, develop, and administer the City's parks and recreation programs and facilities; analyze or direct others to analyze new and existing programs, conduct or direct others to feasibility studies, promote and direct others to engage in activities; plan for facility maintenance and repair; recommend policies and projects to the Commission and implement decisions.Manage directly and indirectly the activities of department personnel and volunteers: assign work, administer discipline, respond to grievances, evaluate employee performance, approve leave, develop policies, recruit, interview and recommend hires.Prepare annual budget request; monitor expenditures; approve or deny equipment purchases; estimate costs for new programs or facilities; prepare records and reports.Meet with elected and appointed officials, community organizations, citizen groups, etc., to discuss parks and recreation related problems.Demonstrate regular attendance.Maintain required licensure and certification.Attend conferences, seminars, and related programs.Perform other related or unrelated duties as assigned.Operate personal computer proficiently; experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Calendar, Outlook, PowerPoint).J-18808-Ljbffr
