Seasonal Maintenance Intern (must be a rising junior or senior)

Maintenance InternPosition PurposeUnder the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, to maintain school buildings and building and grounds in orderly, neat, safe and operable condition.Essential Job FunctionsPerforms tasks to keep school buildings and building and grounds in orderly, neat, and clean condition such as clearing disposing of trash, mowing grass, and related tasks.Performs tasks to maintain buildings and grounds in safe and operable condition, such as making minor repairs to property as requested and related tasks.Checks all building entrances/exits to ensure that they are working properlyUses equipment, tools and materials required for completion of assigned work.Prepares and maintains records to document work and repairs as requested.Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by supervisor. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task or responsibility.EquipmentUses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including saws, drills, routers, planers, sanders, jointers, and stationary power equipment.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of fundamental tools, materials, practices, maintenance.Willing to learn occupational safety and health laws and regulations.Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with others.Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.Ability to describe orally or in writing maintenance or repair problems as needed.Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and others contacted in the course of work.Safety RequirementsFollows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used.Wears appropriate safety gear.Travel RequirementsFrequent travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required.Physical and Mental Demands, Work HazardsAbility to withstand heights and work in crawl spaces.Occasional strenuous physical work.Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:High School Diploma or currently enrolled in Cherokee High School.Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.Preference is given to Cherokee High School students and/or Cherokee High School alumni currently enrolled in a college or trade school.
