Tax Manager

Tax ManagerThe Tax Manager oversees tax compliance workflow, mentors and reviews staff, and serves as the primary point of contact for assigned clients. The role includes preparing and reviewing federal, state, and local income tax workpapers and returns, managing complex tax planning projections, conducting technical research, and preparing clear written documentation. This position works closely with senior leadership and supports a diverse mix of family-owned businesses, trusts, and investment entities within a stable, collaborative in-house tax environment. Key ResponsibilitiesManage end-to-end tax compliance workflow, including identifying required returns, setting budgets and deadlines, assigning work, and monitoring progress. Review staff work, provide clear feedback, and rebalance assignments as needed. Prepare and review complex federal and state income tax workpapers and returns. Supervise quarterly projections, estimated payments, and extensions. Maintain consistent use of standardized electronic file structures and quality control standards. Conduct technical tax research, analyze transactions, identify implications, and recommend solutions. Prepare written research and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders. Review and resolve federal and state tax notices; communicate directly with tax authorities and support audit defense. Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and build strong working relationships across the team. Ideal Candidate ProfileBachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. 5+ years of tax experience, ideally with pass-through entities and closely held businesses; multi-state experience preferred. CPA and public accounting experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of federal and state tax issues related to pass-through entities. Excellent technical research skills, project management capability, and attention to detail. Proactive, resourceful, self-motivated, and an effective communicator. Comfortable working in a dynamic but low-stress environment with predictable overtime tied to tax deadlines.
