Overview As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to in-service injury claims. The role includes reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required for this position. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, with the goal of delivering an exceptional examination experience to positively impact each Veteran.
These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA process for determining benefits Veterans can receive due to service-connected health issues. Clinical insights will help facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, enabling continuity of care for those who need it most.
Responsibilities Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to other clinics may be required.
Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s medical history and health condition.
Render Objective Medical Opinions: based on examination findings, diagnostic results, and medical record review, provide unbiased and evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities.
Case Management and Documentation: understand and work in a case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: coordinate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed to obtain additional information and insights.
Document Examination Findings: accurately record findings in medical opinions and relevant recommendations in clear reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
Interdepartmental Collaboration: partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources to meet deadlines and optimize performance.
Time Management and Scheduling: manage submission and availability for all C&P exams in a timely manner.
Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and quality in the evaluation process.
Quality Assurance Collaboration: work with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings.
VA Training and Program Requirements: comply with VA training requirements and stay updated on all VA MDE program requirements.
Confidentiality: safeguard the confidentiality of all patient information and examination results in accordance with privacy and security protocols.
HIPAA Compliance: employees with access to patient data must understand HIPAA compliance and complete annual assessments; failures may lead to additional training or reassignment.
Qualifications Education and Licensing: Graduated from a nursing program accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practicing in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner; prior experience in conducting medical disability examinations or related fields is preferred.
Certifications: Basic Life Support certification required, including renewals.
Preferred: Previous military experience or familiarity with the military or veteran communities; specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations or related areas.
Clinical Skills: ability to conduct comprehensive medical assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate evidence-based medical opinions.
Personal Qualities: empathy and compassion, analytical abilities, strong communication skills, ethics and integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
Other Requirements: excellent organizational and time management skills able to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment; strong customer focus with a sense of urgency; authorization to work in the United States and compliance with federal contractor guidelines.
Schedule, Travel and Other Requirements Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm standard schedule; holidays when clinics are closed.
Travel: approximately 10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for required training or company events.
