Grounds Keeper/Custodian

Position Type:Maintenance/Custodial/Custodian Date Posted:4/23/2026 Location:Wind River Schools Reports to: Maintenance supervisor General Responsibility: The groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the athletic fields and irrigated areas of the district properties. The groundskeeper will ensure that these grounds are kept in top condition for full, attractive, and productive use. To accomplish these tasks the groundskeeper must work closely with the staff and administration of FCSD #6. Status: Full Time, 12-month position; work days and hours will be determined by the Superintendent. Payment Rate: Classified Hourly Rate Schedule Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent Experience in building and grounds operations Desire to continue career improvement Familiarity with computers or software relating to the maintenance and inventory Ability to read chemical labels Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS) Ability to initiate and complete work orders Have a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle. Complete Criminal Justice Fingerprinting and Background Clearance Duties Shall Include But Are Not Limited To:Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary. Support value of an education Support the philosophy and vision of FCSD #6. Personally participate in all grounds activities. Maintain all planting beds at District facilities. Perform and supervise the preparation and application of herbicides and insecticides to grounds in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Provide equipment recommendations for all grounds maintenance activities. Provide and maintain a plan for long-range maintenance needs of athletic fields and planting beds. Maintain all grounds equipment including record keeping of all maintenance performed. Assist maintenance department in repair and maintenance of all property in the open. Clean up trash after all activities at athletic facilities. Perform tasks related to preparation of athletic fields for games and practices. Maintain and operate all irrigation systems. Coordinate staffing for various activities with the Maintenance Supervisor. When not engaged in grounds work, assist custodians or maintenance supervisor with various general tasks throughout the district. Remove snow and ice as necessary to provide a safe environment at all district sites. Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition. Assist in promoting safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects. Assure proper use and care of equipment and safety gear per manufacturer's instructions. Move equipment and material within and between school buildings as needed. Observe district policies at all times. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques. Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan. Work a variety of hours in order to perform duties. Other duties as assigned by buildings and Maintenance Supervisor or administrative staff. To support the district Mission, Vision, Operating Principals, Goals for improvement in student learning Uphold district policies and procedures Engage in continuous professional growth Work Days: Determined by Superintendent Physical Requirements: Requires prolonged sitting, standing, lifting, pushing or pulling, climbing, crawling, stooping, balancing, kneeling, bending, turning, reaching, and physical exertion. Indoor and outdoor toleration is necessary for this job (extreme heat or extreme cold). The groundskeeper must be able to lift at least 85lbs or more. As well as being able to work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
