2026-27 Program in Agrarian Studies Postdoctoral Associates
OverviewThe Agrarian Studies Program will appoint two postdoctoral associates for the 2026-2027 academic year, chosen for the promise of their research. Housed in the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, the Program in Agrarian Studies at Yale fosters the interdisciplinary study of agrarian societies, historically and across the world. We aim to be the crossroads for the best work in the humanities, the social sciences, environmental studies, and related professional fields that breathes new life into the study of farmers, agriculture, and rural society and captures the texture of lived experience as well contributing to theoretical and conceptual advances. The postdoctoral associates will be required to be in residence for the 2026-2027 academic year, present a paper, and attend the weekly colloquium. Emerging scholars are encouraged to apply and established scholars may also apply. Applicants from knowledgeable activists and public intellectuals whose work on rural life transcends the academy may also be considered. Graduate students who are working on their doctoral degrees may apply, but fellowship recipients must have completed their PhD dissertations and present proof that they have received their doctoral degree. Postdoctoral Associates are expected to be in residence in New Haven, Connecticut, for the full academic year to participate in intellectual exchange with other members of the Program. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and includes a benefits package.ResponsibilitiesBe in residence for the 2026-2027 academic yearPresent a paper and attend the weekly colloquiumEngage with the Agrarian Studies community and contribute to program activitiesQualificationsEmerging scholars or established scholars with relevant research in agrarian studies or related fieldsGraduate students nearing completion may apply; fellowship recipients must have completed their PhD and provide proofAbility to participate actively in intellectual exchange within the programApplication detailsFirst-stage application deadline for the 2026–2027 Associates is Monday, January 5, 2026 at Midnight EST.
