Primary Purpose:Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or high school diploma/GED and equivalent wage-earning experience as required by certificationValid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training for subject and level assignedDemonstrated competency in the career and technical education subject area assignedSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of career and technical education subject assignedGeneral knowledge of curriculum and instructionAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorAbility to oversee student field experiences in career area assignedStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience:One year student teaching or approved internshipTwo to five years of wage-earning experience in the area of certificationMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional StrategiesDevelop and implement lesson plans according to campus guidelines that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.Assess student learning styles and use results to help plan instructional activities.Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).Integrate technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process in the assigned subject area and in compliance with technology TEKS.Participate in ARD meetings as needed.Utilize the TEKS Resource System as directed and in a manner committed to its success and the academic success of the students.Student Growth and DevelopmentHelp students analyze and improve study methods and habits.Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing using common assessments; analyze student assessment data to determine and meet student needs.Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district.Serve as a mentor for at-risk students as needed.Classroom Management and OrganizationCreate classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Communication* Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.Professional Growth and DevelopmentParticipate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.OtherComply with federal, state, and local regulations related to the occupational area assigned.Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.Maintain confidentiality of information.Other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), student teachers, and student observersMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipmentPosture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walkingLifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipmentEnvironment: Work inside, may work inside and outside; regular exposure to noiseMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
