Salary: $25.94 HourlyLocation : Xenia, OHJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 26-00023Department: Sanitary EngineeringDivision: Environmental Services DivisionOpening Date: 03/18/2026Closing Date: ContinuousDescriptionINTERNAL APPLICANTS WILL BE GIVEN FIRST CONSIDERATION PURSUANT TO A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENTUnder direct supervision of the Environmental Services Operations Manager, operates a wide range of powered equipment for the transportation and processing of recyclables and residuals from yard waste sites and County Wastewater Treatment Plant facilities; maintains operational logs for the transportation of sludge, recyclables, and yard waste.WORKING HOURS: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Monday - Friday)Duties/Responsibilities(These duties are illustrative only. Incumbents may perform some or all of these duties or other job-related duties as assigned.)Operates heavy equipment, tractor trailer and roll off; processes recyclables, yard waste, household hazardous waste materials, universal waste, and electronic waste; unloads, sorts, prepares, packages, loads, weighs and bales materials; maintains records of all materials. Identifies materials that include but are not limited to solid waste, recycling, yard waste, universal waste, hazardous waste, plus construction and demolition debris. Provides technical assistance to customers and staff to manage materials through various resources. Maintains a professional manner when interacting with both internal and external customers. Complies with workplace health and safety standards: wears required personal protective equipment; promptly report unsafe conditions; complies with all departmental, county, state federal policies/procedures/regulations and laws.Assigns work and ensures staff have supplies and equipment. Trains staff on the use and routine maintenance of the equipment. Assists in projecting needs for equipment, materials, and supplies. Act as a liaison with other facilities, public and private partners to meet community, operational and logistic needs for the division and department; provides assistance and equipment for community events and festivals.Oversees events to manage specific materials that include but are not limited to household hazardous waste or tires. Able to learn and administer rules related to the management of solid waste, construction and demolition debris, household hazardous waste, universal waste, tires, and other materials related to the operation.Performs pre-trip inspections, daily safety checks and preventative maintenance on Division vehicles and equipment; cleans & performs minor repairs on Division vehicles and equipment; documents all processes.Provides assistance with yard waste, litter collection and recycling programs. Mows grass, removes snow and/or performs general grounds maintenance duties as needed.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D); a valid Class A CDL with no restrictions; must be able to operate manual and automatic transmissions; minimum of 1 yr. of experience in operation of semi-tractor/trailers (or demonstrated driving ability) and heavy equipment.-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for education and/or experience required. Education and Experience may not be substituted for mandated licensure/certification.LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:Valid Ohio Class A CDL with no restrictions; must be able to operate manual and automatic transmissions.Supplemental InformationEQUIPMENT USED:Including but not limited to: Diesel powered trucks, dump-truck, tractors, transport trailers, grounds keeping equipment, fork-lift, air compressor, power generators, pick-up truck, bush hog, tub grinders, lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills; safety equipment, pallet truck, records management equipment, stationary baler, skid steer, electronic scales, wheel loader, small hand tools, snow removal equipment, oxygen/acetylene settling torch, arc welder, and any other equipment needed to perform assigned duties.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.VISUAL ACUITY:The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to eyes. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performing mechanical or skilled trade's tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general labor, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).WORKING CONDITIONS:The worker is subject to: both environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils; the worker frequently is in close quarters (crawl space, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia; the worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways; the worker is exposed to infectious diseases.HEAVY WORK:Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.There is a wide variety of benefits available to full-time permanent and some part-time permanent Greene County employees.
