Maintenance Worker - Parks

Summary This position performs maintenance at parks, athletic fields, city-owned swimming pools, courts, recreation centers, irrigation systems, installing and maintaining horticultural areas throughout the City such as planters, planter beds, trees, ornamental fountains, park structures, fixtures and recreational facilities, mowing , parking areas, boulevards, rights of way, major streets, litter and trash removal, cleaning restrooms, minor construction and repair of facilities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assists the maintenance foreman in the proper maintenance of: Playground, Swings, Pavilions, Restroom, and Trails Prepares and maintains athletic fields and sport courts to include dragging and lining fields, setting bases, mowing, weed eating, irrigation repair, watering, cleaning, pest and weed control, fertilization and trash removal Maintains, repairs area parks and facilities to include: mowing, weed eating, edging, tree pruning, play structures, pavilions, fencing, lighting, irrigation systems, sidewalks, parking lots, restroom cleaning, pest and weed control, tree planting and pruning, fertilization and trash removal Operates and performs minor maintenance of mowers, edger, pick-up trucks, front-end loaders, tillers, string trimmers, blowers, sprayers, chain and pole saws and hand tools Maintains, cleans and repairs swimming pools and water-playscapes; perform plumbing and irrigation repairs Assists with mixing and spraying of chemicals as needed Identifies maintenance repairs and turns in related requests to supervisor Completes and submits required paperwork Assists with preparation of special events to include the set-up, staging, and clean-up Ensures City financial policies, procedures, and safety guidelines followed Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent One (1) year experience in maintenance or operating related equipment Preferred Qualifications One (1) year of park maintenance experience in horticulture Three (3) months experience in concrete, masonry carpentry, and some plumbing Basic computer skills in Microsoft applications Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid driver’s license Valid pesticide applicators license (preferred) Thank you for your interest in the position.
