Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller supports the Plant Controller and serves as a key member of the plant finance and accounting team. This role is responsible for assisting in the execution of financial processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls.Working closely with the Controller and plant leadership, the Assistant Controller helps drive financial performance, supports operational decision-making, and contributes to cost discipline and process improvements. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong foundation in cost accounting, inventory valuation, and manufacturing finance, with opportunities for growth into broader leadership responsibilities.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting & CloseSupport and help lead the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial resultsPrepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedulesAssist in the preparation of plant-level financial statements in accordance with US GAAPAnalyze financial results and provide variance explanations to the Controller and plant leadershipEnsure integrity and accuracy of financial data within ERP systemsCost Accounting & Operational FinanceSupport the standard cost system, including:Perform analysis on scrap, yield, labor efficiency, throughput, and overhead utilizationAssist in identifying cost savings opportunities and margin improvement initiativesPartner with Operations to support productivity and efficiency improvementsWorking Capital & Asset ManagementSupport inventory management processes, including cycle counts and physical inventoryMonitor inventory valuation, reserves, and accuracyAssist in fixed asset accounting and capital expenditure trackingContribute to initiatives aimed at improving working capital and cash flowCompliance & Internal ControlsSupport internal and external audit processes, including preparation of audit schedulesEnsure adherence to GAAP, SOX (if applicable), and corporate policiesAssist in maintaining and improving internal controls and accounting proceduresIdentify opportunities to strengthen processes and enhance complianceLeadership & Team SupportProvide day-to-day guidance and support to accounting staff as neededCollaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Supply Chain, and FinanceHelp foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and teamworkServe as a backup to the Plant Controller when neededQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred, MBA a plus)5–8 years of progressive accounting/finance experienceExperience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to plant-level accountingStrong understanding of cost accounting and inventory managementVery good understanding of GAAP and internal controls (SOX experience a plus)Advanced Microsoft Excel skillsExperience with manufacturing ERP systemsExperience supporting audits and financial reporting in a corporate environmentPrior experience in a lead or senior accounting roleKey CompetenciesStrong Operational Finance Mindset – Understands how plant activities translate into financial resultsDetail-Oriented & Accurate – Ensures integrity of financial data and reportingAnalytical Thinking – Able to interpret data and provide meaningful insightsHands-On Execution – Willing to engage in both tactical and strategic workCollaboration & Business Partnership – Works effectively with cross-functional teamsContinuous Improvement Orientation – Identifies and implements process enhancementsTime Management & Prioritization – Manages multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environmentCommunication Skills – Clearly communicates financial information to stakeholdersProblem Solving – Proactively identifies issues and develops practical solutionsLeadership Potential – Demonstrates initiative and readiness for increased responsibility
