Direct Support Staff (DSP) Combo of Day Services & Individualized Day Support
This individual lives in Enfield. Has supports 5 days a week totaling 30 hours and is in need of 1 consistent staff.. He has a combination of day program and individual day non vocational supports. He attends day program M/W/F in East Hartford and on T/Th he does IDN in his local community in Enfield. Looking for a staff willing to agree to his schedule.
Job Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate, person-centered care and support to individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in a structured day program setting. The DSP is responsible for promoting independence, ensuring safety, and supporting participants in achieving their goals through engaging activities, life skills training, and community inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct care and supervision to individuals during daily activities
Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, and mobility as needed
Implement individualized service plans (ISPs) and behavior support strategies
Facilitate recreational, educational, and vocational activities
Encourage independence and self-advocacy in program participants
Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
Document daily attendance, progress notes, incident reports, and any changes in behavior or health
Support participants in community outings and ensure safety during transportation
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and families/guardians
Follow all agency policies and procedures as well as applicable state regulations
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required
Experience: 1 year of experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred
Certifications (may vary by state/agency):
First Aid/CPR
Medication Administration Certification (if applicable)
PMT/Behavioral Intervention training (if applicable)
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (if transporting individuals)
Skills:
Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Basic computer and documentation skills
Working Conditions:
May require lifting, bending, standing for extended periods
Exposure to individuals with behavioral challenges
Daytime hours, Monday–Friday
