Editorial Assistant
Description:
Assists in all elements of magazine production, coordination, and editing to include administrative tasks and feature development.
This job is a civilian position and does not require military service (including commission and enlistment)
Job type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm in office
Requirements:
Compile and edit Sound Off department
Compile and edit Sea Stories department
Compile and edit Readers department
Compile cartoons for Leatherneck Laffs
Compile and draft Obituaries
Write captions for feature articles as needed
Develop and update production calendars and story lists monthly
Check layouts and final proofs for design and accuracy
Electronically file incoming stories and photos appropriately
Serve as initial point of contact for members, writers and others contacting Leatherneck
Coordinate with freelance authors to ensure all necessary stories and materials are received and returned as required
Communicate with members, associates, advertisers, writers, etc., as requested by the editor
Conduct research on stories and previous issues as needed
Process Leatherneck e-mails and mail on a daily basis
Coordinate payments, contracts, and complimentary copies to authors
Prepare and mail Christmas cards from the Leatherneck staff
Proofread layouts
Education/Experience
English or journalism degree preferred
Computer Skills
Microsoft 365 Applications, Familiarity with WordPress or other Content Management Systems
