Instructors play a key role in inspiring learners to use coding as a tool for problem-solving and positive change.Role Description The Youth Coding Instructor (Part-time/Contract) will lead in-person coding classes (Scratch and Python) and workshops for school-age learners at our on-site location in Prince George's County MD. This contract role involves preparing lesson plans, teaching foundational programming concepts, guiding students through hands-on projects, and adapting instruction to different ages and skill levels. The instructor will demonstrate coding principles in clear, engaging ways, answer questions, and provide individualized support to help learners progress. Responsibilities also include managing classroom dynamics, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment, collaborating with program coordinators on curriculum and scheduling, and providing brief progress updates to staff and, when appropriate, caregivers. The instructor may assist with basic setup of equipment and learning materials and contribute ideas to improve future sessions.QualificationsDemonstrated ability to teach basic coding or computer science concepts to youth, using age-appropriate explanations and activities.Experience working with children or teens in educational, camp, mentoring, or after-school program settings.Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain technical topics in clear, simple language.Familiarity with common beginner-friendly programming tools or languages (e.g., Scratch, block-based coding, Python, or similar platforms).Skill in classroom management, including creating inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning spaces.Ability to follow a curriculum while adapting lessons to different learning styles and pace of students.Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working on-site on a part-time, contract basis.Basic troubleshooting skills for classroom computers or devices and comfort using online educational resources.Previous teaching, tutoring, or instructional experience in STEM or coding is strongly preferred; relevant certifications or training are a plus.
