Registered Nurse - Lactation Consultant
Registered Nurse (RN) – Lactation Consultant Jackson Healthcare Government Services is seeking a dedicated RN Lactation Consultant to support the Pediatric Department at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. This is a rewarding opportunity to promote maternal-child health and provide expert lactation support to active-duty service members and their families. Schedule & Work Hours Yearlong commitment with option to extend. Services provided Monday through Friday between 0600 and 1800 Shifts typically 8.5–10.5 hours, including a 30–60 minute meal break One weekend per month (rotational) Maximum of 80 hours per two-week period, including weekends and holidays The facility operates on federally recognized holidays Minimum Qualifications U.S. Citizenship required Associate's Degree in Nursing (minimum) Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing program Current, full, active, unrestricted RN license (any U.S. state or territory) Minimum 1 year of RN experience within the last 2 years Current BLS certification Current PALS certification Current IBLCE Lactation Consultant Board Certification Ability to meet credentialing and background requirements Position Responsibilities The RN Lactation Consultant will: Promote and advocate for breastfeeding throughout the organization Develop and implement lactation care standards and guidelines Provide education and support to breastfeeding mothers Collaborate with Pediatrics, Family Practice, and OB/GYN departments Assist in organizing and preparing educational and marketing materials related to breastfeeding programs Provide direct patient care consistent with the RN scope of practice Participate in peer review, performance improvement, and quality assurance initiatives Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in MHS GENESIS and other clinical systems Support emergency response procedures and infection control protocols Participate in the Family Advocacy Program requirements Attend required annual military facility training (infection control, disaster preparedness, CBRNE, etc.) Provide in-service education and clinical guidance to support staff as needed Why Join Jackson Healthcare Government Services?
