Nature & Purpose of Position
Performs routine managerial work administering the daily operations and activities for Sam Houston Athletics Academics.
Primary Responsibilities
Manages the daily operations and activities for Sam Houston Athletics Academics. Performs comprehensive academic mentoring and oversees the implementation of academic support programs. Monitors and records athletic eligibility and tracks the academic progress of student-athletes, collaborating with on-campus advisors to ensure steady advancement towards graduation. Manages student-athletes' academic schedules and assists them in registering for courses. Communicates the academic progress of student-athletes, conducts grade checks, and ensures class attendance, maintaining open lines of communication with coaches. Disperses information to student-athletes, coaches, and university stakeholders, offering clarity on institutional policies, academic prerequisites, and athletic eligibility criteria. Facilitates communication between student-athletes, faculty members, academic departments, and student services personnel across the campus. Acts as a liaison between SHSU's Global Engagement Center (GEC) while onboarding international and freshman international student-athletes, assists with maintaining international visa requirements for all international student-athletes, and stays apprised of changing regulations in regard to international visa requirements. Assist in communicating all necessities for international student-athletes while residing in the United States, including, but not limited to, international taxes, acquiring SSN or ITIN, and updating GEC of changes in I-20's and travel plans. Aids in the completion of ongoing eligibility certification. Engages in the recruiting process by holding discussions with potential student-athletes, acquainting them with academic prerequisites and available resources in their respective sports. Assists in compiling, submitting, and validating data essential for reports mandated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), including APR (Academic Progress Rate) and graduation rates, as well as other institutional reports as designated. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Must have thorough understanding of sports rules, compliance regulations and conference recruiting rules and policies. Expected to develop an appropriate rapport with community and University personnel. Must be knowledgeable of all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and conference rules. Must adhere to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and conference bylaws. Must be supportive of institutional compliance and academic programs. Must report all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and conference violations to proper personnel.
