Sheetmetal Mechanic

Job Description As a Sheet metal mechanic, you will use your skills and expertise to assemble and/or create major assembly structures and perform minor part-fitting operations including filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, and reaming. You will be responsible for aligning parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixtures, and measuring parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions.You may also be responsible for modifying incomplete and complete assemblies, incorporating changes into the structure, and monitoring/verifying quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.Please read the information in this job post thoroughly to understand exactly what is expected of potential candidates.Essential FunctionsAssemble major structures and perform minor part-fitting operations (filing, sawing, burring, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling, reaming)Align parts on jigs and aerospace vehicles using templates and fixturesMeasure parts with micrometers and calipers to verify dimensionsModify incomplete/complete assemblies and incorporate changes into structureMonitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control proceduresInspect structures, equipment, or vehiclesOperate or supervise vehicles, heavy or dangerous equipment or machineryPerform aviation-related dutiesRequired Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent and typically 5 or more years of relevant experience(A higher-level degree may substitute for experience; related experience may be considered in lieu of required education)Must own tools in good working orderAbility to understand and interpret applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications xaygatp Ability to complete installations per technical drawings while maintaining edge distance and pitchProgressive experience with:Structure assemblyMinor part fitting techniquesRepair and refinishing (e.g., airframe corrosion removal)Ability to install various fasteners such as rivets and hi-locksPreferred QualificationsBackground in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, US Department of Defense, NASA, or US MilitaryAbility to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
