This position also builds leadership and mentoringskills for the student employee. The peer mentor is an undergraduatestudent who helps peers navigate the college environment andachieve their academic and personal goals through study skills,commitment, persistence, accountability, innovation, and integrity.The Peer Mentor role requires interaction with students inside andoutside of the classroom as well as in the studio for consultations.Mentoring involves active and ongoing relationships betweenmentors and students being mentored to promote social and academic development.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Meet with assigned students outside of class and in the PeerMentoring Studio• Meet with faculty supervisor as needed to plan, implement,and assess engagement strategies.• Design and host study groups in the PM Studio.• Disseminate helpful information to peers; Effectivelycommunicate strategies that foster academic success in oraland written communication.• Serve as a student role model who takes pride in TexasWesleyan University and the Ramily; maintain knowledge ofcampus resources and campus events in order to encouragestudent attendance at events around campus.• Attend training sessions with faculty supervisor andprofessional development activities related to mentoring andstudent success.• Facilitate socio-academic experiences and walk-in supportsessions.• Assist students in interacting with faculty members and withother audiences to foster college life-skill building.• Complete and submit workshop plans, voiceoverpresentations, and documents to be used with students in thePM (Peer Mentoring) Studio• Confer with faculty supervisor regarding necessary peermentoring interventions and outreach.• Attend and participate in all training and staff meetings asrequired.• Attend the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually andfollows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of theworksite, adhering to the advanced notice policy for absencesfrom work.• Develop outreach materials and correspondence with facultyand staff to increase student retention efforts• Deliver presentations promoting peer mentoring in classes toraise awareness of available support.• Practice growing skills in writing goal-oriented action plans forstudent benefit and progress checks.• Create web content, social media posts, data entry, anddocumentation in spreadsheets for records of studentcontact. Proficiency in using the Microsoft Suite, presentationtools, and virtual meeting interfaces such as Teams and Zoom.• Collect attendance data for every peer mentoringconsultation, including student names, course title, date, andtime of session.• Have a class schedule that permits staffing hours for campusand student needs; ability to work during student-access-to-campus days; takes initiative in an active and visible role as astudent leader on campus.Education, Certifications and/or Licenses• Current enrollment as a student in good standing at theuniversity with a cumulative GPA near 3.0 or above.Experience• Completion of at least 15 credit hours at Texas WesleyanUniversity; faculty recommendation for social andcommunication skills and capacity to mentor peers withcompassion and ethics; additional subject matter expertise ina student major preferred but not required.Experience• Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, or assisting peersis preferred.• Experience developing problem-solving improvement plans preferred.• Skill in guiding student peers within the Canvas CourseManagement System• Experience documenting details through note-taking and/or record-keeping.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities• Ability to work independently when necessary andcollaboratively with colleagues and faculty supervisor todevelop a welcoming studio environment.• Confidentiality and discretion regarding student challenges.• Passion for helping others and motivation to help otherssucceed.• Ability to work with students from different backgrounds andwith differentiated learning needs.• Strong time management and organizational skills.• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.• Ability to adhere to University and Studio policies andprocedures.• Discretion in in handling confidential matters, while complyingwith privacy (FERPA) regulations.• Ability to take perspective and to practice empathy.• Ability to practice active listening, craft engaging questions forstudents, and engage in mentoring and problem-solving inorder to customize individual action plans and progresschecks.• Ability to maintain a neat & professional appearance andoffice atmosphere.• Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, standardcorrespondence, and memos.• Ability to complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly,appropriately, and in a timely manner.• Ability to uphold workplace ethics and principles of academicintegrity for student benefit.Posting Detail InformationPosting NumberPosting Open Date01/14/2026Open Until FilledYesPosting Close DateSpecial Instructions to Applicants
