CrossoverPhoenix, AZApril 22nd, 2026
Required: Master's in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)On-site at Waypoint Academy, Dripping Springs (Austin area), TX. Relocation assistance provided.$100,000 annual salary, paid weekly. Full health, dental, and vision coverage from day one.Nature-based school integrating rigorous academics with outdoor adventureMost reading specialists work only with students who have already fallen behind. If you've spent your career believing that approach is backwards — that Science of Reading principles should reach every child from the start, not just those flagged for intervention — keep reading.Waypoint Academy is a nature-based school where mornings center on focused academics and afternoons shift to archery, survival skills, and exploration of the Texas Hill Country. Your role covers the morning portion: delivering small-group structured literacy instruction that advances every K-2 student in phonics, decoding, fluency, and writing. You design the lessons. You analyze the data. You regroup and adjust in real time. The remainder of your day involves coaching students through adaptive learning platforms, cultivating the relationships that help every student reach 100% of their app-based targets. No scripted curriculum. No pull-out intervention model. You are responsible for literacy outcomes across the entire cohort. You're joining a small, emerging school. That means you'll be constructing the literacy program rather than stepping into an established one. As the school grows, you'll determine how structured literacy expands across new cohorts and grade levels. If you prefer a static position with predictable routines, this role isn't the right fit. If you want to demonstrate that every child can learn to read more effectively when instruction is designed specifically for them, this is the opportunity. What You Will Be DoingDelivering small-group structured literacy workshops: systematic phonics, decoding, fluency, and foundational writing for all K-2 students, not only those identified for interventionEvaluating student data from adaptive platforms and running records to regroup learners and modify instruction between sessionsCoaching students individually and in small groups through adaptive learning software, fostering the relationships that ensure goal completionCreating your own lessons grounded in structured literacy principles, customized to each group's present level and learning paceIntegrating occasional outdoor or hands-on activities to strengthen literacy concepts when they authentically enhance learningWhat You Won’t Be DoingDrafting IEPs or managing pull-out schedules with classroom teachers. Every student in the cohort is your direct responsibility.Passively monitoring students on learning apps. You actively coach them toward goal completion, not observe them clicking through screens.Remaining in a traditional classroom all day. Students spend afternoons outdoors, so your literacy instruction blocks are concentrated and high-energy.Grading large volumes of worksheets — adaptive software manages practice volume and tracks progress, allowing you to concentrate on direct instruction.Structured Literacy Specialist Key ResponsibilitiesDrive reading and writing growth across all K-2 students through structured literacy instruction and adaptive learning platforms.Basic RequirementsBachelor's degree in any fieldMaster's degree in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, or UFLI.
