Principal Software Engineer (SME)
Position SummaryOdyssey is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer (SME) supporting the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Armament Directorate Munitions Division (AFLCMC/EBH) at Hill AFB, UTThis position supports the government in applying advanced engineering principles to the design, development, integration, and sustainment of software-intensive systems across the full acquisition lifecycle. This role involves working closely with program offices, engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, mission-critical capabilities that meet performance, operational, and mission requirements.ResponsibilitiesSupport engineering activities across all phases of the DoD acquisition lifecycle (Materiel Solution Analysis through Operations & Support)Apply software engineering principles to support system design, development, integration, and sustainment effortsSupport requirements development, analysis, traceability, and verification for software and system-level capabilitiesPerform system design, integration, and technical analysis to ensure performance and mission effectivenessDevelop and review technical documentation, including system specifications, interface control documents, and engineering reportsSupport technical reviews and program milestone activities (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR)Collaborate with program management, logistics, test, and cybersecurity teams to ensure integrated system performanceAnalyze system performance and recommend improvements to enhance functionality, reliability, and maintainabilitySupport risk identification, analysis, and mitigation planning for technical and program risksProvide technical input to acquisition documentation and program decision-making processesQualificationsCitizenship: Must be a U.S. citizenMinimum Required Qualifications:Must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret clearanceBachelor's degree in related discipline and 20 years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in related discipline and 15 years of relevant experience; OR PhD in related discipline and 10 years of relevant experiencePreferred Qualifications:Experience supporting system development, integration, or sustainment activitiesExperience applying engineering principles to support the development, integration, and sustainment of software-intensive systemsExperience supporting requirements development, analysis, traceability, and verification within complex programsExperience contributing to system design, integration, and technical evaluation activities across the acquisition lifecycleExperience supporting technical reviews and program milestones (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR)Experience working within DoD acquisition environments or similar large-scale engineering programsMaster's degree in related discipline and 25 years of relevant experience and recognized at the national level in Software Engineering; OR PhD in related discipline and 25 years of relevant experienceABET-accredited MS and/or BS degree in computer scienceTechnical Skills:Systems engineering processes, including requirements analysis, integration, verification, and validationSoftware development, integration, and testing within complex system environmentsFamiliarity with engineering tools, modeling, and simulation environments supporting system design and analysisAbility to analyze system performance and develop technical solutions to improve functionality and reliabilityKnowledge of configuration management practices and technical documentation developmentInterpersonal Skills:Ability to operate independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering teamStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities applied to complex technical challengesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearlyAbility to support mission-critical programs in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentAbility to manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving program needsAdditional InformationLocation: Hill AFB, UTTravel: May be required based on program needsWork Environment: OnsiteEqual Opportunity StatementEqual Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with DisabilitiesJ-18808-Ljbffr
