Substitute Custodian

Seasonal Groundskeeper Keeps the district's school buildings in a state of operating excellence. Essential duties and responsibilities include performing seasonal grounds work (snow, lawns), cleaning and preserving designated spaces and equipment in the building, restocking disposable items, and providing supervisor with inventory usage and data. Assists visitors with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment. Maintains building and grounds security. Qualification requirements include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). Prior experience in custodial work is preferred. Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine correspondence, and speak effectively with other employees and students. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies. Physical demands include talking, hearing, standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls, reaching with hands and arms, sitting occasionally, squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above the head and forward, bending or twisting at the neck and trunk, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 90 pounds occasionally, and pushing/pulling items. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment includes regular indoor work with occasional outdoor work, working near or with moving mechanical equipment, and occasionally working with toxic or caustic chemicals. Must meet deadlines with severe time constraints and work in a usually moderate noise level environment.
