OverviewElement has an opportunity for a Microbiologist that will, among other responsibilities, focus on cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of reusable medical devices in a GLP lab setting . This position in Eagan, MN will execute operationally on customer projects, and will support performing testing, method development, technical assessments and overall process improvement.ResponsibilitiesPerforms, evaluates and interprets a wide range of microbiological assays including basic analytical titrations in accordance with SOP and protocolsPerforms, evaluates and interprets a wide range of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization assaysAssists with the development of and performs, evaluates and interprets Research and Development (R&D) projectsAssists in implementing new methodologiesAids in report (data) generationPerforms microorganism propagation, stock culture maintenance, daily culture transfers and organism preparations using aseptic techniqueResponsible for generating and maintaining strict documentation of raw data to ensure a high level of scientific integrity in accordance with regulatory requirementsCross functionally supports the biological testing production laboratory with cytotoxicity, bioburden, and endotoxin testingResponsible for the documentation and maintenance of applicable training recordsAssists with the monitoring, cleaning and decontaminating of laboratory equipment on a routine basisAssists with the review of paperwork generated by the Medical Device Laboratory as necessaryAssists with developing and refining new and existing Standard Operating Procedures and forms Provides information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in personResponsible for communicating laboratory issues and trends to the lab manager and to peers when these issues are discovered Responsible for assisting with the completion of all daily laboratory tasks scheduled directly or indirectly to the employeeAssist the laboratory manager in developing or training new or existing laboratory employeesSkills / QualificationsBachelor’s degree in biological science or related field requiredThree to five years of applicable experience in a microbiology or related lab is requiredPrior experience with reusable medical devices preferred in the areas of cleanliness, disinfection, sterilization, etc....Study Director experience preferredAble to become current and stay current with EPA and FDA Good Laboratory Practice Regulations (40 CFR Part 160 and 21 CFR Part 58)Thorough understanding of scientific studies in order to problem-solve, develop new test methodsAble to understand published methodology to adapt existing test methods, develop new test methods and ensure accuracyThorough understanding of governing regulations and pertinent scientific literature to ensure complianceKnowledge of the principles of classical microbiology, including bacteriology, mycology, and microscopyKnowledge of general analytical procedures including chemical titrationsKnowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment apparatus and terminologyCompany OverviewElement is one of the fastest growing testing, inspection and certification businesses in the world.
